Let me preface this entry by saying that you probably won't understand this unless you know who I'm talking about but I'm sure everyone has friends or acquaintances who are like this. . . and this is mostly just a rant LJ but obviously I'm doing this publicly so have at it. . .
Why does it have to be that so many kids "grow up" (translation graduate high school and turn 18/19) and sell out? I understand that this is a very loaded word but basically I mean why is it the norm for people to become adults and think it's cool to get high, ignore everyone, "fight the establishment" and claim to be Christians while holding no values related to Christianity at all. You are the people who ruin it for the rest of us who are doing things to make this world a better place and who actually LISTEN to people not just spew out what our parents or some cool/older kid has told us to think about the world.
What pisses me off is that this "adults" can say all there "down with the man" talk (insert whatever angsty political/social thing you want here) and they are still LIVING AT HOME LIVING OFF OF THEIR PARENTS, DOING NOTHING but armchair observation about the world.
AHHHHH
I really need to deal with this some other way. . . I could write forever on this and yet I cannot keep typing. . . what I wouldn't give to have people understand that you don't have to be of this world to understand this world. This is mostly just me not being patient but this passage from Proverbs is so true. . . .and so unfortunate to see played out over and over again. And yet in the midst of these thoughts I see such promise in the ones who are just entering "the world". Thank God for people who listen and for those who grow up with integrity.
Wisdom calls aloud in the street,
she raises her voice in the public squares;
at the head of the noisy streets she cries out,
in the gateways of the city she makes her speech:
"How long will you simple ones love your simple ways?
How long will mockers delight in mockery
and fools hate knowledge?
If you had responded to my rebuke,
I would have poured out my heart to you
and made my thoughts known to you.
But since you rejected me when I called
and no one gave heed when I stretched out my hand,
since you ignored all my advice
and would not accept my rebuke,
I in turn will laugh at your disaster;
I will mock when calamity overtakes you-
when calamity overtakes you like a storm,
when disaster sweeps over you like a whirlwind,
when distress and trouble overwhelm you.
"Then they will call to me but I will not answer;
they will look for me but will not find me.
Since they hated knowledge
and did not choose to fear the LORD,
since they would not accept my advice
and spurned my rebuke,
they will eat the fruit of their ways
and be filled with the fruit of their schemes.
For the waywardness of the simple will kill them,
and the complacency of fools will destroy them;
but whoever listens to me will live in safety
and be at ease, without fear of harm."
