Adopting a dog

Feb 12, 2008 11:12

Dustin and I have been actively searching for a dog to adopt the past two weeks. .. with no progress (other than knowing that out in Pasco County you'll find tons of large dogs & ostriches and finding every single adoption place in Hillsborough County) so we were getting pretty tired of searching until we finally went to the Hillsborough County Animal Services in Brandon. Unfortunately they have tons of dogs - all sizes, shapes & types. But this was a good thing for us . . . we found like 4 different potential dogs. :)

So we filled out an application and it was approved: less than 35lbs and no aggressive breeds. Woot. . .we were on our way. Their set up (b/c every single place has their own way of doing this) is the front room of dogs are ready to adopt now, then there are the kennels which are full of dogs that they have recently (in the last week or so) found who haven't seen the vet or who are not ready to adopt. . .there were THREE kennels full of dogs. . .so we found one back there. . this cute little black dog. So we have put our application on this dog but we were the second person to do that so we are in line. The other people get to play with the dog on Wednesday and if they decide that they don't want it then we get to play next. . . or we get to go back to Animal Services and pick another dog.

This is a lot of work but I'm SO excited to get a dog!

In addition to dog stuff this week is also the most stressful one of the year! We have a retreat going on this weekend and up until yesterday I was actually ready but today I have to rearrange all the rooming situations & redo every single name tag for 60 people. . . grrrrr. . .it's mostly my fault for not reading the Terms & Conditions but we have been to this camp a hundred times yet they have new policies that I didn't know about. . . .bah! So hopefully I will get all that done today, get them a check cut and have Wednesday to go shopping for our last minute supplies & food. I am definitely taking off Thursday & Friday to spend with Dustin!

We are doing the ever-so-classic dinner & a movie for V-day. Maggiano's & then some movie, we haven't talked about it yet :) Any suggestions?? I haven't been to the movies in months. . . but we have gift cards to both Maggianos and a regal cinema so we are thrilled to have a free date night :)

On valentine's day Dustin & I will have been together 3 years. . wow. . time flies by yet I feel like I have always had him by my side.
