Burbin' it

I've made it to San Jose in one piece. My car arrived today 4 days ahead of schedule. Peter's been hanging around quite a bit. It's a 2 BR so he's using one for himself. He actually bought a sleeping bag to sleep in. Apparently he'll be similarly slumming it when he moves to DC in a few days, so the sleeping bag should come in handy.

My mom is showing up on Wednesday to help me buy stuff. She's making me buy an iron before she gets there. I guess that means I need an ironing board too. Lugging it by hand would have been an ordeal.

I don't have any internet access, but the local mall does. I was going here for the past few days to buy things. Luckily, there's a Target, so it didn't break my bank. The first night I was here, I had an inflatable bed, but no sheets, so I bought all the materials to assemble it. Since I didn't have a car, lugging it home was quite an ordeal. I made the mistake of leaving the cart close to Target instead of pushing it nearer to my destination. Luckily, when I got to a nearby apartment building, there was a collection of carts from the mall, so I selected one and put my stuff in it and brought it the rest of the way. I got some dirty looks from my apartment though. "Abandoned shopping carts" was one of the major complaints I remember reading about in ApartmentRatings regarding other apartment buildings. It must lower property values or something. I made sure to replace the abandoned shopping cart in the place I found it. Then I made up for it today by pushing a shopping cart I found about halfway to the mall the rest of the way.

I dunno, this is kind of a cool neighborhood with the light rail and the mall, but it's so suburban. I think I'm turning into a yuppie. Maybe next year I can move to San Francisco and turn into an urban indie hipster, but the commute would be kind of horrendous. It'd take an hour and a half probably, though I could use mass transit so I could spend the time hacking or something equally lame. Anyone have suggestions on successfully rejecting yuppyism, or alternatively coming to terms with it?
