There's a core of steel to Nate that's common in the Corps. With Nate though, it wouldn't be something that the Marines taught him.

This sentence struck me. Don't know why; just really like the observation.

Nate pauses, adds, "Oh yeah, and the lack of assfucking."

Oh hell, this fic is one long tease! Is it bad to ask for more, for a continuation? Really enjoyed it, especially the visual landscape. But also the quiet emotional landscape.

I really enjoyed your Nate here. He was far less passive, not confined by the restraints of command and it was a fresh look at his character.

I think there could definitely be more to say in this story, if you're so inclined.
