goodbye forEverwood

Before anybody asks, no, that wasn't a spelling mistake! I can't believe I actually have to write this, but last Monday night, I had to sit and watch one of the best acted, written, and thought-out shows come to an end. And for what reason? No reason at all other then the WB and UPN networks merged and now we have the CW network, who have no intentions of adding Everwood to their TV schedule, because they're a bunch of idiots, who obviously have no sense of good television. Everwood filled the time slot right after 7th heaven, and although I did like 7th Heaven, it just couldn't compare to Everwood in plot, character, or anything else. Unfortunately though, 7 million people tuned in to see if Simon and Rose would actually get married on the series finale of 7th Heaven a few weeks ago, as compared to 4 million who watched the Everwood series finale, so this new CW network has purchased another 13 episodes of 7th Heaven. Now I like the show and I'm glad to see it renewed. But honestly, why not Everwood as wel? There has never been a show on television that made more people laugh, cry, jump for joy, yel at their TV, or show such emotion as Everwood did. I looked forward to watching the goings-on in Everwood week in, and week out, and I really can't say that about any other show in recent memory. This from someone who wasn't even going to watch the pilot, thinking that I wouldn't like the show. From the very first episode I was hooked, and I can honestly say I've never missed an episode. Of course, that's due to time shifting, and my computer's ability to record shows I would otherwise miss. Everwood had this amazing ability to pull you in from the beginning to the end, with its story-lines and characters. The writers always managed to keep the viewers interested, and never failed to keep the show real, and believable. Good plots mixed with good acting by Treet Williams, Gregory Smith, Emily VanCamp, Chris Pratt, and Vivian Carden, along with several others made the show amazing, and I'm probably not the only one who's left wondering why cancel Everwood, and not One Tree Hill, or Small Ville. Small ville's been on forever, and how many times has that Lex guy died? What is he, a cat or something? There are lots of great sites on the net who tried to keep the show alive for a 5th season, but that wasn't enough, unfortunately.
So I should talk about the Everwood series finale because it truely will be on everybody's top ten list of memorable series finales. First, Nena had found out that Andy bought her an engagement ring, even though she's supposed to move to LA with Dimples, aka Jake the next week. There was a really funny scene in the finale where Hannah and Nena are in the Brown's house looking for the ring. I wasn't sure why they were whispering since nobody was home, but it was probably a good thing because in the middle of their search, who comes home? Andy! Hannah runs downstairs to stop him from coming upstairs, with some laim excuse that she's looking for Sam's sweat-shirt. She somehow segways in to asking if he has any Coco, and says she should make coco and they should sit and talk like old times. Andy's left confused, and Nena bolts out the back door, ring in hand. There were several montages of different people through the years, the most moving of which seemed to be Ephram and Amy, although I'm taking that from several other people, as I couldn't see them myself. I personally hate when they play music and show clips over top of it, because although the music is always good, I have to wait until the recap comes out online to see what happened. But that didn't take anything away from the show for me this time. And I have to say that I really did try hard not to cry throughout the show. But when Andy went to Julia's grave and was talking to her, I completely lost it, and that was it for me. The writers even kept a seemingly insignificant promise from the pilot, when Andy gave Delia her horse, saying that he didn't think she was ready 4 years ago, but he thinks she is now.
From beginning to end, the show portraied well the relationship between a father and his children. A family tragicly torn apart, uprooted by a promise, and then how a small town and all those living there could help put the pieces together again for a happy and fulfilled life. Everwood totally ended like it was supposed to end, I only wish it could have been on TV longer then 4 years. Who knows what the writers could have done in season 5.
www.passtheremote.com has a good tribute to the show's final episode, as well as links to some other good Everwood sites. If you liked the music played throughout the show, go to www.everwoodmusic.com to get lists of songs, and where to download them, er, um, I mean, where you can buy them. Finally, if you like Everwood, please buy the season 1 dvd. Apparently sales are dismal, and Warner Brothers won't release the other 3 seasons unless sales of season 1 increase.
