Hi,
Just an update, since my little guy's supposed to be napping, but actually he's singing in his crib. I can't help but hear him, because he's loud, but
mostly because he's very cute when he sings like that. Anyway, Lennon is adjusting to life with Colyn and I very nicely. He and Colyn love each other
very much, and play with toys together, and lay on the floor together too. Sometimes Colyn puts his head on top of Lennon, and tries to give him a hug.
Other times Colyn makes Lennon growl, and then laughs hysterically about it. A couple times Lennon has barked at Colyn, and Colyn's not quite sure what
to make of that, so he just stands there. As for Lennon's work, he's great! We can go anywhere now, and I'm learning to trust him more and more. I don't
know why I'm having such a difficult time trusting this dog, but it's very hard for me to just follow him and trust that he knows what he's doing. I'm
finding myself putting my right hand out if I know there's something I might run in to, and I'm sure I look like a total idiot, but I can't help it. Lennon
also has a minor, very minor dog distraction. It's so minor now that it's almost not worth mentioning, except that it leads me to my next bit of news.
Yesterday we were walking on our usual route to the bus stop, and doing quite well. There's construction where we'd normally shoreline, so we had to
switch to the other side of the street. That side of the street has 3 dogs in a fenced-in yard, and when the trainer came out to do the hometraining portion
of my training she said we'd shoreline on the right because of these 3 dogs. But yesterday when I'd walked that route in the morning, I was concerned
about the construction, mostly because the guys in the trucks don't tend to pay attention to anything but what they're doing. Also, the trucks mask the
noise of the on-coming traffic, and when Lennon went around a loud truck that was blocking the entire side of the street, we almost ran in to a car coming
towards us. So we'd decided to shoreline on the other side of the street. Lennon was great, not bothering with the dogs, and we were going along beautifully.
All of a sudden there was a dog on top of my dog snarling and biting him. I guess he'd run out the door when this guy answered it, and just decided to
jump on my dog. The guy stood there calling the dog, telling it to get the hell back in the house. I'm not kidding, those were his exact words. And
the dog listened very well...He continued trying to eat my dog for lunch. I should mention that the dog was a half-grown rotty-shepherd cross. I was
so proud of Lennon too, just stood there doing nothing. He didn't even growl. But when he started yelping, I told the guy that he needed to come get
his bleeping dog before I kicked it across the street. It took him a whole long time to get out of his house and down the sidewalk, and rather then physically
removing his dog from Lennon's back, he said Stay." This is a guy who has no business owning a dog. Anyway, I checked Lennon over, and he was bleeding
in a couple of places. I called the vet to see what I should do, and they said to bring him in just to be safe. I also got an approximate cost of the
services I might need. Then I went back to this guy's place and told him that he could either pay my vet bill, or we could contact the authorities and
they'd fine him for interfering with a working dog. I think that's an actual offense, but even if it's not, it sounded good. He begrudgingly gave me
the money for the vet bill and I took a cab to the vet because I didn't want to make Lennon work. The vet checked him all over and proclaimed him healthy
as a horse, with minor scratches and a couple cuts on his legs and neck. His cuts were cleaned, and 52 dollars later we were on our way. He's doing great
though, even working passed that spot with no problem. God bless my first dog, but if I'd have still had her, there'd have been a fight between those
2 dogs. She'd have probably laid him right out there on the sidewalk. lol I'm glad Lennon didn't do anything though, even though I wouldn't have stopped
him if he wanted to defend himself. The guy had to pay my vet bill, and if Lennon had fought back, the guy might have refused to pay it, saying that my
dog started it or something. I'm just glad Lennon only got minor cuts, and that he's okay. It could have been alot worse. I hope he continues to work
well around dogs now. I'm a little worried about that, but I guess we'll cross that bridge when we get to it.
Well that's all the excitement I can take for one week, and that's all the news from here.
