Character Name: Barry Burton
Series: Resident Evil
Gender: Male
Age: 49
Species: Human
Sexuality: Heterosexual
Appearance: Barry stands at 6'1" and apparently weighs 196 pounds according to some sources, and I can tell you right now that is complete BS because this man is built like a bear. His largeness doesn't come from fat - that's all muscle. Years of being in the military and various peace-keeping forces have forced him to stay in shape. He has short, grayish-brown hair, a light reddish beard, and brown eyes. His S.T.A.R.S. uniform is composed of a white T-shirt with the team logo emblazoned on the left sleeve, a red vest with a holster for his .44 Magnum slung over his side, dark pants tucked into his boots, and fingerless gloves.
Personality: Barry is a little like your dad: he's kinda weird and sometimes says really odd things, but he's one of the most reliable people you'll ever meet. As one of the oldest and most experienced members of S.T.A.R.S., he's very disciplined and calm under pressure - the only things that made him crack at the Spencer estate were the fact that his family was being threatened and the small matter of ZOMBIES EVERYWHERE. He's very cautious and thorough when it comes to his work. He'll take extra time to investigate something and be absolutely sure he knows what it is, and he'll stay behind to watch his teammates' backs and make sure they have an escape route. When he does fail, he takes it very personally. After getting his family the hell out of Raccoon, he promised himself not to return to them until he made up for his betrayal to his teammates. Whether he's in uniform or out, Barry is kind and understanding, but that all goes out the window if you mess with his family or friends.
He also tells really bad jokes.
Abilities: Don't let Barry's dumb jokes and strange mannerisms fool you - he is a very competent man. Other than Enrico Marini, Barry was probably the most experienced member of S.T.A.R.S. at the time of the Spencer mansion incident. He used to be a SWAT team operative, and he served in the U.S. Air Force for a short period of time before joining the Special Tactics and Rescue Squad - which is a feat all in itself. As the S.T.A.R.S' weapon specialist and resident gun enthusiast, he's very familiar with firearms and knows them inside out. He's strong, he's tough, and he knows his guns.
Weaknesses: Barry is very loyal and devoted to his friends and family, making them obvious, easy targets. He would do anything to keep them safe. Wesker was able to blackmail him into betraying his fellow S.T.A.R.S. members during the Spencer mansion incident by threatening his wife and daughters, and he came close to killing Jill Valentine at least twice. There is also a small matter of Barry's age - he's 49. Although he is by no means an old man yet, he's still getting up there in the years.
Manhattanite or outsider? Outsider
History: Barry had a long career before he joined the RPD's Special Tactics and Rescue Squad. He served in various armed forces, working in a SWAT team and even entertained a brief stint in the U.S. Air Force where he met Chris Redfield before settling in Raccoon City. Things were going well until the mysterious cannibal murders occurring in the outskirts of town. Bravo team was sent in to investigate, but contact was lost. Alpha team went to find them and continue the investigation, but soon after they touched down, they were attacked by a group of Cerberus, dogs infected with the T-virus. Barry and the rest of his team were forced to escape to the Spencer estate. There, things quickly went straight to hell.
The entire mansion was infested with twisted creatures and people who'd fallen victim to the T-virus. On top of that, Barry and Jill were separated from Chris and Wesker early on. When they split up to find their friends and try to carry out the rest of their mission, Barry was forced to betray his teammates, as Wesker, who was really a double agent for Umbrella, threatened to harm his wife and children if he didn't do exactly as he was told. Although he tried to help Jill as much as he could, he still abandoned her when she needed him and even tried to shoot her. Even though he, Jill, Chris, and Rebecca (the last surviving member of Bravo team) managed to get out of the mansion safely, his actions weighed heavily on him.
Barry immediately moved his family to Canada to keep them safe. During the T-virus outbreak of Raccoon City, he flew in a helicopter and managed to get Jill out of there before the sterilization missiles struck. Afterwards, he, Jill, and Chris participated in various anti-Umbrella activities, presumably helping them finally shut down the company once and for all. I have no clue what he does after that, because Capcom has a habit of forgetting their most awesome characters and leaving them in limbo forever, but I'll go out on a limb here and say he continues to kick ass and take names and help his friends with the B.S.A.A.
He also starred alongside Leon Kennedy of RE2 in a Gameboy Color game called Resident Evil: Gaiden, but shhhh, we don't speak of this.
