Woo. i have not been this tired in AGES. so shall we begin the review of the past few CRAZY days? SURE!!
so friday night was DCI oswego, and lemme tell ya, it was a good
time. not only is the cavie show this season AMAZING, but
christina and i stood three feet from them. and talked to
them. and watched them. and saw the amazingness that was
the center snare. and the lead mello. and the assistant
drum major. they all get A+'s. ahh they're amazing.
saturday and sunday were mainly feeling crappy and working. but
sunday night was DCI lisle, and lemme tell ya, it was a good time.
hahah. we commenced the spying on of warmups because last year's
incident was just not enough, but mainly only saw capitol regiment
(hopefully the corps i'll be marching next summer!) warming up.
the show was insane cuz there were many more corps there than i
realized...and a lot of them had shows i wasn't expecting to
like. there was no up close cavie experience at this one, i'm sad
to say. but it still was an overall good time.
so after like five hours sleep i headed off to...orientation!
that was absolutely teh craziest two days of forever....the orientation
leaders were insanely loud and peppy the entire time. i was
expecting it to be lame-o "hi my name is amanda and i like apples"
unfunness, but it turned out to be really really cool. i am sooo
ready for college now. it felt like i had already moved in.
i met enough people to make your head spin...some nice, some mean, some
weird, all very interesting. i found my roommate! i thought
they were kidding when they said you would find your roommate soulmate
at this thing, but they weren't. her name is amanda too, and
she's a music ed major too. and her favorite animal is the panda.
and she plays the flute. but her main gig is vocal, so she's doing
choral music ed. it was funny...she asked me to be her roommate
after like two hours....it was quite random but i think it's gonna work
out quite nicely. we had orientation groups (i was a
y-sub...yellow submarine) and it was split up basically by major.
so we were the music/math kids...so it was fun hanging out wtih fellow
music dorks, even though all of them were choral except for one rather
hot guy from madison. haha. umm so we did the whole getting
to know each other thing and then did NCC olympics with musical chairs
and bat spin and other cheesy games. then i led everyone on a
tour of the riverwalk, cuz the actual leader didn't know anything about
the riverwalk and i was like "ohh well i go here everyday" haha.
so then they had a nice little dance party...until like midnight.
and then we hung out and talked for a gazillion hours, and i finally
went to my room at like 2:30. but as i was entering my room
people were running outside to do slip n slide...if i hadn't been so
tired i totally would have joined them haha. i didn't get to
sleep til 5 cuz of all teh noise...moral of the story? ya, at college,
you don't sleep. you scream and yell and do slip n slide at 3
am. haha. at least at my college i guess. today was
the boring stuff, tragically, which made staying awake even harder. but
i figured out my classes, and i am so excited! i dont know my
actual schedule til august, but it will be:
english 125: honors seminar on money matters (it sounds boring but it really is interesting)
music 101: music theory (wonderfully offered only at 8 am...yay!)
music 108: aural harmony
music 114: concert band
music 231: flute private lessons
music 211: piano private lessons
french 201: intermediate? i think. the placement test was so
incredibly easy i got a 98/100. seriously, it was all "michel
veut faire un sandwich. Ou est-ce qu'il va?" it made me
giggle, annoying the girls next to me intensely taking their japanese
placement test.
they definitely weren't kidding me when they said music ed was a full
major..i have to take half those classes no credit so i stay under the
maximum credit limit. but i'm happy cuz i get to minor in french
and possibly double major in it, so i'm getting my teaching certificate
in french too.
i thought being in teh college scholars honors program wasn't a really
big deal, but apparently they only accept 40 people out of hte class of
500. but it's not too intense of a program, and i get little
perks here and there. score.
ok, sorry to blab on and on and on. but you'll see what i mean
when you go to your orientation and it's amazing...well except for you
rosie. hehe. and oh yes, i mentioned you guys enough times
that by the end of it the people i hung out with knew you guys by
name...haha. i'm off to take a nap and compensate for the lack
last night....
