Wow, that is a really amazing story. I loved it very much. Of course it's a scenario I would never want to see in a show (God, "Lost" without Juliet - that would be unbearable!), but as a idea for a fanfiction, I'm delighted by it.

It is very easy for me to imagine, that, exactly like in your story, Sawyer wouldn't be able to put himself together after Juliet's death. I mean, when in "The Incident" she dropped his hand and disappeared in that damn hole... I didn't even realize James can be so devastated. It was tragic... So, his total numbness you show in your story, is completely understandable. What's more, I really love, what kind of mourning you chose for him. Of course, crying and cursing the world would be more striking, but absolutely not more probable. In your story he became distant, withdrawn and cold - and I think it's very Sawyer-alike. Not speaking with anybody about, what happened and locking himself in a empty house is so in his character!

And you did something totally improbable in my case in here :D For the first time ever I didn't find Kate completely annoying! :D It's amazing, because everything in her pisses me off and in your story she was rather neutral for me. I'm still surprised about that ;)

Of course, great job with Miles and Hurley. Especially the scene with Hurley making a funeral for Sayid (you're cruel, you know? :P You not only killed Juliet, but also poor Sayid) and Juliet - it was so in his style.

Jack shakes his head. "No, Chang told me he might be able to cover for Miles and Jin, it's just us, Sawyer and." The name chokes on his throat; he pauses and moves on. "We are the ones who have to leave."
I don't really know, why, but I find this part so brilliant! Because of James and his silence about Juliet, she became a sort of tabu for all of them. It's all very coherent, I think.

When he hears a rowdy snore, Sawyer begins counting the rules she set for him - no walkies after his shift. No watching important games with people other than their crew. No towels on the bed.
Do you have any idea, how frikkin' genius is this one?? I almost cried reading it (for a many times). It's so simple and beautiful - their little things, they established in those few years. Things that are present in life of every couple. And I love to think about them like that. It makes me realize, they really had a great life with each other... It's amazing, that Sawyer thinks about stuff like that - not integrally about Juliet and the fact, that she's dead, but about those little things, that made their life, and now, they're gone. I guess, at some point it was easier for him to think this way - to distract the pain, to transpose it from the overall lack of her presence to her little habits and customs.

Sawyer almost wants to offer some comfort, tell him that there's no need to explain, that he understands just fine. But now there's no chance of ever being that guy.
I also love this part, because it confirms, what I think about influence, that Juliet had on James. If he ever was that guy - comforting, understanding and kind - it was only because he wanted to be like that for her, because she made him realize, he can allow himself to be like that.

I really like, how you played with possibility of meeting young Juliet, after Sawyer got back home. Maybe the thought about her living somewhere was at least a little comforting. Maybe it gave him some hope. But after he saw her and realized, that she wasn't the Juliet he knew, it all disappeared. It was Juliet, but not HIS Juliet. You showed it perfectly.

And the idea of Sawyer meeting his younger self? Very intriguing. I really love, that you left this story unfinished in a way. This understatement only intensify tragic and tension.

You express James pain extremely well. Reading this story was depressing (which means you had an effect on a reader, which means the story is great!) and very moving. I felt a weight of his misery. And I really believe, that Juliet's death would destroyed Sawyer. She was the only really good thing, that happened to him. She was love he deserved to and taking her back, would simply kill him - if not literally, than for sure in emotional way.

All in all, beautiful story :)

! Oh, my. I don't even know where to start thanking you for this review! It makes me blush and feel all warm inside.

I completely agree that this is something I wouldn't want to see the show. But as far as plot bunnies go, I thought it would be interesting to play with. (And yes, idk how Lost even considered going on without Elizabeth. I can't even imagine the show without her now!)

Even this sort of distant Sawyer, I don't know how attractive that would be on the show, because we're so used to seeing him all active and energetic. But like you said, that scene on the finale... I didn't even know Josh had that in him! LOL. It just seems to me like something in Sawyer would have to come apart after that. And to have him crying in the corner all of sudden would be a stretch, I think. Honestly, the only two ways I can see him going now is either really really mean or this.

Hee, I'm glad you were able to stand Kate, because I certainly wasn't! Even as I was writing I just wanted to slap her senseless. LMAO! But anyway, I didn't think her connection with Sawyer is something that I could just ignore. (But, oh, how I'd like to!)

Oh, how wonderful that you liked the other characters parts. I was worried about breaking the POV, but in the end, Hurley and Miles are so lovely to write that I couldn't help it.

*blush* Wow, reading your thoughts on this is just stunning to me! To the point that I don't even know if I wrote this or if your reading of it is much more complex than I could hope the story to be. It's a wonderful feeling.

If he ever was that guy - comforting, understanding and kind - it was only because he wanted to be like that for her
This is exactly what sells their relationship as it was portrayed on the show. From the end of S4, I knew something was going to happen with those two, but I thought it would be a beautiful angsty relationship, filled with bitterness and hurt. And when LaFleur happened, I was sort of shocked to see them so... loving. But this is what I can see Juliet doing for Sawyer - in not taking his bullshit, she allows him to be everything he can't even admit to being. And this is something no one else has ever done for him. His kindness comes through around her.

Also, the whatever happened, happened thing is only interesting to me as far as it makes me wonder whether everything they're doing in the seventies was always what happened. And then it makes me think - what could you do to make sure that you were changing things? The only answer I could come up with is, you can't be sure of what happened in other people's lives, only your own. So what if you went back to a day you remember well and made sure to change it?

I think that's really interesting. I left the end open mostly because I like that anyone can come up with their own answers to that.

(LOL, idk if any of this made sense.)

Anyway, this comment was just amazing. It made my day, my night, my week! It's so encouraging! Thank you very much.

LOL :D Finally someone, who can't stand Kate and isn't afraid to say it at loud :D That's what I love :D I really, really hate this character. Srsly, never, ever had I hate some character like that. And I was so happy, that in the end it was Juliet, who won James heart, because seeing him with Kate was so painful! Of course, like you said, we can't ignore their relationship, but I believe, that Juliet is *the one* for James and writers won't dare to create in a season 6 any situation, that may suggest, that Sawyer can turn back his feelings to Kate. It would be like the worst scenario ever and I can't even imagine anything like that...

Yes, it definitely was amazing to see them like that. After S4 has ended I thought it would be funny and interesting to see them in some kind of romantic situation, but to be honest I never really believe there will be a serious relationship for a lifetime like the one, they actually gave us. What's more, who would have thought, that Juliet can make a man like Sawyer - dark, sarcastic, selfish into someone like James - carrying, responsible and simply happy. This was the thing, that surprise me to most - how happy in a peaceful way James become with Juliet around him :) Finally some healthy and normal relationship in "Lost" ;)
