Fanfic: Somewhere Along the Road

Jul 04, 2009 03:19

So, I just signed up onto Fanfiction.net, only to find that you can't really do anything there until 2 days after registration.

Pairing: Sonny/Chad; Portlyn's POV.
Rating: PG.
Summary: And that was something she knew from the very start.
Disclaimer: If I owned SWAC, or ANYTHING valuable, I wouldn't be writing a fanfic on my computer when it's raining outside during the summer~

-------

She was scared of it all
Watching from far away
She was given the role
Never knew just when to play
And she tried to survive
Living her life on her own
Always afraid of the throne
But you've given me strength to find home

- Two Worlds Collide, Demi Lovato.

--------

She's known it from the start.

She knows that Chad doesn't love her, or even care about her.

She always thought that Chad never had anyone to rely on.

So she was persistent, determined.

She endured his frequent yells, sarcastic remarks, and the fact that he could only talk about himself.

His hair, his eyes (which he claims that Sonny thinks are sparkly), and just the gigantic ego of Chad Dylan Cooper.

He fought her constantly, for reasons that she doesn't even remember anymore.

But, somewhere along the road, Chad gained a heart.

He smiled genuinely, he laughed heartledly, and he even shared their cafeteria food with Sonny, Blondie, Rainy, the annoying girl with the pig tails, and that other guy.

Portlyn thinks it's because she never gave up on those who needed it the most.

She thought that she was finally breaking down the impossible walls of Chad Dylan Cooper.

But then again, Portlyn knew better when she overhears Sonny and Chad in the So Random! studio.

--------

Portlyn was roaming the halls of the So Random! studio, searching for Chad.

She walks quietly through the halls, and suddenly hears the laugh that she was finally become accustomed to.

Chad.

She walks quietly toward the dressing room and silently turns the doorknob.

She argues to herself, that Chad was talking to somebody and this wasn't her business.

But she peeks inside anyways.

Inside, she sees Sonny and Chad sprawled on Sonny's overly-decorated couch, with Sonny lying down on top of Chad.

She knew it. She just never wanted to believe it.

She overhears Sonny's voice, only it isn't bubbly and innocent like it usually is.

“Damn it Chad, I waited okay? I've waited so damn long. And what do you do? You circle around it, like it doesn't matter at all! I need to hear this, Chad Dylan Cooper” Sonny muffled into his chest.

Portlyn considers turning around, because she knows that what she hears next would never be for her.

“Sonny .. I .. damn it. Sonny I, I'm not ready for it!” she heard him ramble angrily.

Portlyn can almost hear what's going through their minds. Sonny needs Chad to reassure her that he's not playing a game anymore. Chad, he's always been the complicated one. But somewhere along the road, Portlyn realized that Sonny had Chad all figured out. And that terrified him.

“Chad... I need this” she spoke weakly, as if every word were her last breath.

He looks at her, and then sighs. As if he were resigning.

“Sonny Munroe. You're persistent, you know? You have me all figured out. You know me. And that scares the crap out of me. I'm rambling aren't I? Yeah, I think I am. But I think, what I'm trying to say, is ...”

And Portlyn silently closes the door, and finally realizes the truth after so long.

---------

Portlyn knows.

She knows that Sonny was destined to break down the hostile walls that were Chad Dylan Cooper.

She knows that Chad needed someone who could hang onto him, someone who would stay with him no matter the infinite number of mistakes he knows that he will make.

Sonny needed Chad, and Chad needed Sonny.

And that was something that she knew from the very start.
