It usually starts when Ray can't sleep. He lies in bed for hours, never comfortable, mind floundering in the eerie, unfathomable blackness behind his eyelids. During the day, his head aches, his temper frays too easily; he's distracted, waiting to hear the one voice that can calm him.
And when he really falls apart (slowly -- the world never seems to crumble like it does for Gerard; things just crack a little, strain the seams of his self-control), there's only one thing he can do.
With shaking fingers, he sits at his laptop and books a plane ticket to Chicago.
