So basically, this was aimed at me. so i will stick up for myself: first of all, most teenagers, til they are about 18, will be mostly dependant on their parents. Some people have that luxury, its not a bad thing. second, why do we need intelectual conversations, when we want them, we have them, but whats the point to just sit around and debate. As for political, we basically all have the same opinion, bush is a dumbass, what else is needed. We all realize what is happening around us, but why must we discuss it.
and i add to what noah said in his post. From what i heard your college buddies don't seem very mature, they seem like dumb kids to me. so they play with knives, get in fights, get drunk, have sex. wow, what fun.
I'm sorry you did not enjoy David's basement or its inhabitants. that is why you left, and have nothing to do with it now. so leave it be, and stop bashing us because we are the way we are. i enjoy being in highschool so i can act the way i act, i do have concern for the future, but i like to put htat on hold t6o worry about now nad deal with what happens. what else are you going to remember.
No, this was not aimed at YOU specifically. Although you fall into some of th categories that I brought up.
yes, teenagers are dependent on their parents, but I feel like our generatation is going to shit because most of us have NO financial independence and we don't know how to magange money at all... and we're going to be on our own in a year.
We don't NEEd intellectual converstaions. I just noticed that there were none. No dicussion of workd issues. Or whats going on outside teh high school. And that made it seem that we were all so focused on what was going on in our little world and not the big picture. Make sense?
Some of them weren't. Just like some high schoolers aren't. Some of them aren't. Some of them are idiots... just like some high school kids are idiots. Overall, though, they ARE more mature than alot of high schoolers I know. Yes, playing with knives, getting in fighs, and getting drunk and having sex are fun for them. You enjoy, along with many other, some of those. Its not only about that though. Its about what they think about. How they interact. What their hobbies are. How seriously they take school. What their relationships are like... its alot of other things that bring out the differences between the two groups.
I DID enjoy David's basement and the inhabitants. Hell, I LOVED you. I left because my parents. I have nothing to do with David's basement because of a whole different issue, dear. And you know very well what that is. You're supposed to act like high schoolers when you're in highschool. I just grew up to quickly maybe. I don't believe that I would enjoy the interactions and actions that I did before. Thats why I think I've matured. The same things don't seem fun anymore. I believe that you have a concern for the future... People do. Its human nature. But the quiestion is what are your goals? What are you working towards? Do you have a plan for it, or are you just worried about whats up there? What I think happens is that we don't find a balance between the present and future... and thats what I think it part of the problem. You can't put it on hold until its there, and I'm afraid thats what is happening to you, and to a bunch of other kids. You are going to remember these times, so why not try and make them enjoyable? Why not go out and do something that you can remember rather than sitting in a basement watching David play video games... which is what I did? I think that you are getting out of that, but thats how it used to be. From what it sounds like, people are being more active now that I'm gone, and thats a really good thing.
But this was not aimed specifically at you. It was about all the high schoolers that are drifting into apathy and not taking the initiative to DO things for themselves and with themselves to make their lives sucessful and happy.
