So, when the drummer in your band quits on you with two shows already booked for the following two weeks, and you decide to go for it with a replacement drummer, make sure that those two weeks don't coincide with any major changes in work, such as a massive firm-wide office relocation.

If you do choose to venture on that crazy path, make sure that you get as much rest as possible, and choke down as many vitamins as you can, because you will be stressed. Your immune system may be weakened, and it is possible that you may be more vulnerable to any sickness or diseases floating about in your vicinity. Perhaps a touch of the flu, or "24-hour bug" may come into your life in the guise of food poisoning. Be prepared to watch your new-found trust in Indian food vanish at 5 in the morning the day of a show as you spend more time lying in a cold sweat on the bathroom floor than in your comfy bed with your fiancee who is now too growing sicker by the minute.

7 practices in 9 days, 10+ hour work days, 1 show, 1 sick day, 1 missed practice, 17,000 gallons of Gatorade, 10 cups of tea, 2 bowls of soup, 1 week-long headache, 2 sore feet, 1 achy back, a barrel of laughs and one crazy summer, tm, ltd.

If you live in Brooklyn and want to see my band The Debutantes, we're playing this Friday at NorthSix. Pietro (formerly of the Bon Savants, currently of the Never Never and Angels of Meth) is filling in on drums for us.
Come and tell me that all this work was worth it.
