Susan Stockdale (2008). Fabulous Fishes. Atlanta: Peachtree Publishers
Author illustrator Stockdale has created a great introductory picture book on fishes. Rhyming text is minimal, but highly descriptive of each fish represented. The art is acryllic on paper (i like when this info is in copyright page) and the bright colors and clean pattern contrasts really reflect Stockdale's experience as a textile designer. A glossary page indicates the actual names of fishes being shown and a little sentence about each. Kids may be able to identify the seahorse and clownfish on their own. This is a great companion to aquarium visits.
I love this book. Early introductory non-fiction is always hard to find and this book works well in the easy reader/picture book section as well as being quite educational.
