I miss some of the things that I DO remember from high school, sometimes...

We stood under stars with black ribbons in our hands tied to little red balloons that, for us, carried the weight of our worries and our wishes. The city lights off towards the horizon sat like constellations in our eyes. And for that short time my friend and I stood in the skies. We talked about our school and your homeland. We talked about our loves and our hates. We talked about how some day we would visit each other again. And at the end of it all we let them go. We asked them to carry our weights off so that we wouldn't have to, at least for a little while. There we stood, two strange figures in the shadows of a party. Two strange figures from different realities. Polar opposite beings that the universe brought together for just a few months.
I watch you now from a far. And sometimes I wonder if you watch me too. Connected by a network of photographs and political rants and radio towers. I watch you travel and hope that someday we will meet for coffee and eat chocolate and you'll tell me about all of the places you've been. I hope you'll let me pick your brain about the languages that you've learned and the people you've met. And I hope that when this all happens I won't be the only one thinking of the strange figures with their little red balloons and high hopes.
