It’s not the hand that cuts; it’s the hatred deep inside.

I was watching Life Unexpected recently and in the background I heard this really nice song that caught my ears, lol. I actually had to re-wind that scene a few times because I just kept focusing on that song and not on what was happening. Found out it was sung by Joshua James, an artist that I wasn't familiar with. The song is called "Stop this Train".
Went to Last.FM to see what other songs he had and I pretty much loved all of them. Downloaded both his albums - I know, I still want to buy them though - and I've been playing them all weekend. Seriously, I love most, if not all of his songs. His voice is quite similar to David Gray, and with that, I have to say you have to be in the mood to listen to him. His voice is raspy, full of emotions, and sometimes even depressing. The lyrics are full of metaphors that half of the time don't really make sense and yet you can't stop listening to him.

I figured I would share them with you. Here are a few songs that I love, so you can play them before downloading. I've linked them to Youtube cause I had no idea how to add music to livejournal... :S Hope you enjoy the music though!!!

Magazine
And I sold our house the 3rd December, we’re livin’ where our feet done land.
And the babies screams, they might get to heaven, but they’re buried far ‘neath the sand.
All I know my minds done thinking, mouths doin’ what it can
To keep the rhythm and put a nickel back in your hand.

Annabelle
I traveled with a long suitcase and a busted picture frame
that shows the piano we played in the dark.
Then he sold you away to the darkest of the stage,
put tight shackles around your heart.

The New Love Song
Lets stop our busy lives awhile
And think of the many many people
Across the many miles of earth
That have no clothes, no food to eat.

And what about the air we breathe,
to the food we eat,
Are filled with things that kill,
Our deaths are closer than we think.

Today
another day it's all the same
another way to make it sane.
And here we are another breed.
Another train to make it seem all ok.

In and out of all these towns.
Spins me round, it takes me down, takes me down.
Lyin here oh what to do.
Same ole stuff it's the same old tune, the same old
tune

Coal War
If we don't walk free with hand in heart, it's time.
If we cannot see all we destroy, we're blind.
It's not the hand that cuts, it's the heart we left behind
It's not the hand that cuts, it's the hatred deep inside.

Five dollars and a head to keep, with dull black scissors and some kerosene; you burnt the house, but you came to bid him well.
What a thing to tell, "Store poison in the well."
Just to say, just to say, just to say, just to say...
I ain't cutting my hair till the good lord comes.

And save the best for last:
Lawn Full of Marigolds ♥ In an interview he said that this is his favorite song on his new album, because it is the most personal song on there.
So to death: I ’m dying. To love: I’m trying. To God: I’m lying again. And to my ma: I’ve failed you. To my pa: I blamed you. And to God: I’ve shamed you again.

Definitely check Joshua James out. I found this great review that sums him up perfectly.
The music on Build Me This is so layered and dense that each time I listen, I hear something new. James makes terrific use of strings and piano, giving even the simplest tune depth and he shifts tempo often during songs, adding interest. He even made me like the harmonica, an instrument I usually despise. The lyrics are poetic and intricate and while their meaning can be ambiguous or their darkness off-putting, especially given James’s impressive ability to paint vivid word pictures, their unabashed emotion is irresistible.
