Motivated...

I’ve been suffering from a major case of writer’s block lately, probably caused by an increasing amount of schoolwork and severe lack of sleep. Funny, but sleepless nights used to inspire me, not make me fall asleep halfway through class.

Then two weeks ago, I saw the very interesting prompt of "Three Little Words (not 'I love you')" in the onepiece_300 comm. I've been following that comm for a while, but I never wrote for any prompt challenges. But this particular prompt really caught my eye; there was so much that I could do with it. I took to brainstorming ideas during my classes by writing down key dialogue or specific phrases that I wanted to use. After a couple of days of doing that, I realized that it was a great way for me to remember important points I wanted to make in a fic or just fic ideas in general. Plus, brainstorming kept me awake in class, which is always a plus. :D

I think the hardest part of writing for the op_300 prompt challenges is the word limit. Three hundred words is very little to me. Prior to that, the shortest fic I've ever wrote was about 750 words, so I had a hard time trying to fit everything I wanted to say into just three hundred words. But I think writing drabbles for prompts is a really good way to experiment with different writing styles and to just keep writing. I feel like if I stop, then writer's block is going to attack again. Or maybe even -le gasp!- plain laziness.

So I think I'll try to keep writing for that comm to keep my creative juices flowing. The prompts give me lots of much-needed inspiration! The deadline is also an indicator of how well I'll do if I decide to enter the 30_onepiece prompt challenge. I think I have to practice a looot more before launching myself into that big of a project. After all, I usually write one-shots, which don't have deadlines, so I'm pretty bad when it comes to time management. ;)
