Claire was laying in bed when the phone call came and she rolled over with a little groan before picking up her phone. She had been out late again which was no surprise since her friends seemed keen on doing stuff for her birthday which was only a couple days away. Then she had ended up hanging out with Adam and Peter for awhile as well.

Picking up the phone, she pushed some hair out of her face, "Hello?" She paused then, blinking softly before sitting up, "As in my role model?"

He grinned, forgetting the guy was there a minute.

"The very one. I'm in town."

"Shut up! Where are you?" She was already scrambling out of bed, rushing to find come clothes. "I'll come meet you!"

"I'm at.." He looked around, recognizing the place instantly. "Times Square. I've commandeered some poor man's phone."

The man chuckled nervously beside him.

"I'm hanging up now, but I'm in uniform so unless you're as blonde as I remember you should be able to find me..."

She chuckled a little bit as he paused to look around, wondering how it even took him a second to figure out where he was. Then she remembered that it was because he hadn't been on Earth for a long time.

"Hey, are you calling me slow?" She laughed before hanging up.

It took her ten minutes to throw on a pair of jeans and a t-shirt, sliding on a jacket over top before grabbing her shoes and running out. When she got to Times Square, she looked around and then spotted John.

Rushing towards him, she smiled brightly, "John!"

He had thanked the man and sent him on his way, saluting him for being such a good citizen. When he had gone, he scarcely had to wait before he had an armful of indestructible, blonde ex-cheerleader.

"Claire," he responded in kind, wrapping his arms around her back.

She laughed, wrapping her arms around his neck as she hugged him tightly. "I can't believe you're actually here." She stepped back a bit, smiling, "You look good. When did you get in?"

"..Thanks. A little.... a few days ago."

He blinked, letting go after a moment.

"Here, let me... buy you dinner. I have cash coming out of my ears. Isn't it our birthday soon anyway?"

"Wow, you must...be weirded out."

She stepped back after they let go, smiling.

"Wow, you totally remembered." She tilted her head to the side, "Sure, where do you want to go?"

He shrugged, adjusting his aviators over his eyes.

"Just a hunch... know of any good Italian places nearby?"

"Yeah, there's a place near where I live. Really good carbonara." She nodded her head.

Motioning for him to follow, she walked with him as she brushed some hair back from her face, "So why did you get sent back? What happened?"

He sighed, following after her like a puppy.

"It's... complicated. Atlantis was attacked."

Reaching over, she linked her arm with his and then gave him a worried look. Very worried.

"Oh god. Are you okay? Were you hurt?"

She stopped, looking him over, resisting the urge to start poking at and patting him down to make sure that he wasn't hurt somehow.

Scratching the back of his neck with his other hand, he shook his head slowly.

"No.. I'm fine. They.. they want to shut the program down. They don't want to send us back to defend the city, which is stupid..."

She sighed softly, partially in relief and partially because she felt bad for him.

"I'm sorry, I knew you were just getting used to it being home."

Shaking her head, she started walking with him again.

"So what are you doing now?"

He smiled tersely, feeling numb.

"I'm not going to let them do this, Claire. I'm going to have to go to Colorado and make my case. I have to.. clear my head, though. First."
