Been sanding/ scraping away at the Dalek skirt mould all day. No pictures, as it’s basically the same as before, just minus more gunk. I have removed all the thin gelcoat, leaving quite a few bare patches. It turns out that was caused simply through not putting enough resin down in those spots before putting the matting down. It’s 95% along the various corners.

Finished doing that about 2pm, about half way through the day. And..then time to use the gelcoat to fill some of the small holes. And there are so many holes and imperfections in the skirt.. I just haven’t started. The whole build is beginning to get me down a bit. It has been weeks since I finished making the fibreglass mould, and since then I have just been trying to repair it. And I have to repair my dome, and the dome mould. So much fibreglass repair work to do on it.

The shoulders are still half done, because I am not comfortable at all with making my forth attempt at skinning a set without messing up the whole thing.

Really I should just walk away from the project now, but I am sure that if I pack up tools now, and put the bits away in the shed it’s going to be a project that I will have failed at and won’t be able to pick up again in the future. I do want to take a break from the whole thing, but I would like to do it when I have one section done. The shoulders are an age off, the neck needs to be cast in fibreglass. So the one section that is close to being done is the skirt.

What I really need to do is have someone experienced to help me out with the skirt mould for a day, going through how to repair it, and helping me skin the shoulders properly. But somehow, I really don’t think that’s going to happen.

This Dalek build is probably the second most frustrating thing in the world at the moment!

tired, sore
