Biology is the least of what makes someone
a mother.
Look at my darlings!! This school year, EVERYONE got to go, even our youngest. He suffers from epilepsy and was being left behind. Our group's efforts have gotten everyone in class, motivated, and excited about their futures.
Today A. told me of her ophthalmology plans; she's started taking all biology courses so she will help people see better, when she grows up. She said all she used to think about was how scared she was, what will happen when she aged out of the orphanage, her future was going to be nothing, alone and end up nowhere, possibly dead before 20. But now that she has us, helping her and all the other children to plan for a life they could never dream of, they have so much hope, and don't feel unsafe anymore.
Dr. Scott always says "you're not childless, you have 40 children" and I am really feeling like it. I think about them, worry about them, all my waking hours. On Mother's day he even sent me a happy mother's day text. Some friends have warned me about orphanage scams in Africa, the corruption in Cameroon and other African nations, and advised me to abandon this project.
But I will never abandon my 40 children.
