Tom held Lucy's hand tightly as they entered the room. Mimi looked so frail, hooked up to so many machines ( Read more... )

Lucy watched silently, not wanting to interrupt but also because she was just taking it all in. She'd seen people dying before, of course, but never from being sick, never from something she couldn't cure atleast.

"It wasn't a waste," she finally said quietly, moving over towards the two of them. "And of course she is. Though I'm sure she wouldn't mind if you kept her waiting a little longer," she gave Mimi a little watery smile at that, reaching down to take one of her hands in hers.

Mimi squeezed Lucy's hand and smiled at her. She turned to Tom and took his hand too. "I like her, chico. Hold on to her. Angel likes her too. I can tell."

Tom smiled sadly and nodded. "I know. Angel told me." He sniffed and brushed Mimi's hair back with his free hand. "How are you feeling, really?"

Mimi looked off to the side. "I don't have much longer Tom. They've already asked me to sign a DNR. They don't expect me to last a week."

Lucy smiled back at Mimi. She wished they had met under different circumstances, she could tell that they might've been friends, she certainly liked her.

"Is- is there anything we can do to, well," she didn't want to say 'make this easier' but, well... "Is there anything we can do for you while we're here?"

Mimi smiled up at Lucy and shook her head. "The fact that you're here is enough." She turned to Tom and laughed sardonically. "Isn't it ironic? I finally kick the drug habit, and here I am, on so many drugs I couldn't name them all."

Tom smiled but didn't laugh or speak, just squeezed her hand.

Mimi turned back to Lucy. "You seem like a caring chica, would you do me a favor?"

Lucy didn't laugh either, but she did grin a little. She looked up at Mimi's question. "Of course I will," Lucy said immediately. "What is it?"

Mimi smiled. "Will you and Tom check in on Roger occasionally when I'm gone? I know he's got Mark, but Mark is just as mopey as he is. He needs a smiling light in his life."

Tom's tears were falling freely, and he nodded, letting Lucy know it was ok with him if it was okay with her.

Lucy was not going to cry. Really she wasn't. Except that she might've been. But only just a little. "Of course we will," she said, squeezing Mimi's hand and smiling gently at her. "You needn't have even asked. I'm sure I would have made Collins do it anyways, if he hadn't himself."

Mimi nodded, satisfied that Roger would be taken care of.

Tom smiled at Lucy, loving her more than he ever had. He remembered Roger after April's death, and knew he was going to need his friends more than ever. He made a mental note to ask Roger if he wanted to come to the Towers with them after....well, after.

Mimi smiled up at Lucy, wiping away her tears. "Come one girl, don't cry over me. I'll be fine. I'm just glad to finally be able to rest. The past few years have been exhausting."

"I'm sorry, I don't mean to be such a mess," she laughed, though it wasn't exactly the happy sort of laugh. "And I can imagine. But you- you won't have to worry about any of that anymore. Seems we've all seen Angel, and somehow I doubt she'll let you worry about it." Which... probably sounded odd, she knew, but she didn't much care.

Mimi pulled Lucy in for a hug, recognizing the girl needed comfort. She was at peace, she's accepted the inevitable, and knew that now it was simply a matter of time.

Tom walked over and gently pulled Lucy away from Mimi and into his own arms, needing to hold her. He reached out a hand and held Mimi's, smiling sadly, seeing the peace in her eyes.

Mark strolled into the room and looked at the scene. "Oh I'm sorry...I'm just here to...I brought...I didn't mean to..."

Lucy quickly wiped the remaining tears from her eyes. She was supposed to be here to help, not be the one who needed it. Smiling at Mark, she said, "Don't be silly. You're not interrupting anything but me being a mess, come in already."

Mark glanced at Lucy and smiled sheepishly, holding up a bag of bagels. "I brought breakfast..."

Mimi laughed and grinned at Mark. "How's Roger sweetie?"

Mark shook his head. "I finally got him to go to bed last night, and then I raided his room. You...you were right. I found heroin."

Mimi looked away and tears filled her eyes.

Tom silently took the bagels from Mark and passed the bag around, grabbing a plain one for himself. He didn't know what to say, so he simply stayed quiet.

Lucy looked away, not quite sure what to say herself. Biting her lip, she finally said quietly, "Maybe... maybe we could convince him to come back with us. Not that- that you couldn't look out for him, Mark," she added quickly, not wanting to imply anything she didn't mean, "and you're more than welcome to join as well. Just- well, there's so many people in the place we live, he'd be practically surrounded by them all the time. Maybe... maybe it could help?"

Mark and Mimi looked at Lucy in suprise while Tom grinned, loving her ability to read his mind so perfectly.

Mimi nodded slowly. "That...might be good for him. Get him away from all the memories and ghosts that haunt New York for him." Not mentioning she was about to add one more. "It might good for you too Mark, get you away from that bitch Maureen."

Mark gaped at Mimi. "I..I can't leave this place, I can't leave Maureen behind. She might need me." He turned to Lucy. "But it might be really good for Roger."

Lucy took the staring in stride, but was truthfully a little disappointed when Mark said no. She was rather smart enough to know inviting Maureen would be a Bad Thing, though. Help one person at a time then, she supposed.

"Well, the offer's there if you change your mind," she smiled at Mark. "But," she looked back at Mimi and Collins, "I-I think it ought to help for just that reason. Change of scenery and all that."

Mark nodded. "Thanks. I'll keep that in mind."

Tom smiled and pulled Lucy's hand. "Well...we'll leave you two alone. Lucy wants to do some sightseeing. We'll be back before we leave." He bent over and kissed Mimi.
