hi! here is ch 3

rating:12/pg 13 (angst and suggested rape?)
word count: 610

The setting sun sank low over the blood red sky, casting streaks of amber and gold across the fiery backdrop. The ship sailed smoothly across the sparkling sapphire waters of the Mediterranean, gently rocking as waves licked against the hull.

Marian stirred, slowly opening heavy eyes. The dim lighting of the cabin washed over her, sharply contrasting to the blinding sunlight and white sand she remembered. “Where am I?” she stammered, confused.

She studied Guy’s anxious face, so close to her own, his hands bloody, holding fresh white bandages, spotted with crimson.

His leather coat swamped her like a blanket, carefully tucked around her body, cocooning her in its warmth and rich, musky scent, familiar and comforting.
“Hold still” he whispered, tying off the end of the bandage around her head, attentively dressing the wound he had inflicted.

She sat up, Guy’s coat slipping from her shoulders, head throbbing, desperately fighting against the dizzying black threatening to engulf her.

“Marian, sssh, lie still, you need to rest” he soothed, relishing the chance to finally take care of her. She groggily examined her surroundings, looking for some clue as to her whereabouts, reaching out to steady herself, only to discover her right arm was shackled to the wall.

She snapped awake, realisation flooding over her. A haze of images passed through her mind, fighting in an abandoned village, Much, knocked from his horse, the king arrow in shoulder, helpless on the ground, Guy sword drawn, ready to attack.

Had Guy really tried to kill her?

Anger rose up in side her like a wall of raging fire, blazing eyes locked onto Guy’s, “I will not be treated like this!” she spat, “You cannot hold me here against my will!” She tugged violently against the chain, incensed, furiously trying to loosen its hold.

“How dare you do this to me! How could you betray me to the sheriff! That was your last chance to be a good man Guy, your last chance! How could you choose him over me? Sacrifice that last spark of humanity?”

She broke the gaze, too disgusted to continue, he had smothered his better self beneath his greed.

She sank onto the bed, the cruel reality crashing over her, clear and razor sharp; Richard was dead. Robin could never be pardoned. If he ever returned to England he would die a traitor. They could never be together.

With one swift stroke, Guy had destroyed everything.

“Guy, what have you done?” she whispered, “what have you done?”

Tears rapidly began to swell, spilling from her eyes, pouring down her face in a torrent, breath catching in her throat, as hopeless sobbing consumed her.

Guy stared at her, shaken by her drastic change of emotion, he reached for her, desperate to ease her pain. “don’t touch me!” she screamed

“don’t touch me! Just get out! Get out!”

Guy sagged against the door, guilt twisted like a knife in his heart. What had he done? Her pathetic wails pierced the air, choking him; he had broken her, extinguished the last of her fire.

Richard’s blood was on his hands, the symbol of everything he had ever wanted; power, position and prestige, a bittersweet victory. In gaining everything, he had sacrificed his better self, the side he knew Marian sensed, the side she was forever trying to reach.

He steeled himself, the veil descending. He could not afford to doubt, to regret. Feelings made you weak. He needed to be cold, calculating and strong.

He would still have Marian, when they returned to England; he would take her by force.
