The change from summer into fall is one of Jensen’s favorite times of year.
He loves the cooler weather coming in and the leaves starting to change from the deep green to reds and oranges and browns.
He loves the hot drinks from coffee shop, especially the pumpkin spice lattes from Starbucks.
Jensen also loves pulling out his soft cashmere sweaters, his favorite pieces of clothing by far.
Jensen loves raking the falling leaves and jumping into the pile, feeling like a kid all over again.
He can sit outside for hours, watching the dogs playing in the yard, and just revel in the weather. He’s not a huge fan of summer, not anymore. He can appreciate it, but there’s something about fall weather that’s different and special and amazing.
Jensen thinks the best fall weather is back home in Texas - not too hot and not too cold. He likes sitting on his porch with a hot cup of coffee (or hot chocolate) and just rocking along in the swing feeling the breeze on his face.
Texas is a bit different than Vancouver because it’s warmer than Vancouver is and the changes are less subtle, but it’s there.
Most people joke that Texas has two seasons, summer and winter. Jensen disagrees, because he’s been through winter in Vancouver and Texas can’t even compare. Texas does have it’s own version of winter, but it also has this month of fall.
It’s the best time of year, in Jensen’s opinion. The kids are going back to school, the ideas of Halloween, Thanksgiving, and even Christmas are floating around in people’s minds, the air just seems to shift into more excitement rather than the lazy summer days.
The shifting of seasons always reminds Jensen of his own school days - of fighting with Josh and Mackenzie about who got the bathroom first, about sitting on the bus in the mornings and resisting sleep, about his Mom gently waking him up the first day, about the breakfasts the first week of school all full of nutrition and love, about the packed lunches with the little notes, about him having to grab his jacket and always forgetting it at school at least twice a week. He can remember making new friends every year and of moving on from the old ones.
The shift from summer to fall also reminds Jensen of Supernatural and of filming and of the late nights in Jared’s huge backyard just lying in the grass and looking at the blanket of twinkling stars. They were always outside because it was going to be too cold in a week or two, so they got a good week of nice weather before it got dreary and cold.
But Jensen thinks the best thing about the change of weather is that it was the start of him and Jared. It was one of those nights in Vancouver after being up and working for over twenty hours, where he looked at Jared lying in the grass next to him and knew this was it. That’s the moment he leaned over and kissed him, listening to Jared’s huff of finally and in that instance, the rest of his life got infinitely better.
Jensen stands on the porch, looking at the dogs chasing each other and feels a warmth as Jared presses his chest to Jensen’s back, his huge hands wrapping around Jensen’s waist, his nose nuzzling in the spot between Jensen’s chin and collarbone, a perfect fit.
This, right here, might be why he loves the changing of seasons so much.
