Jensen sits next to Jared on the ratty old sofa that his brother gave him when he used it in college and looks at the bottle of beer in his hand like it holds the answer to all his problems. If only it were that easy.

It’s a Friday night and Jensen’s best friend, besides Jared that is, decided, along with Jared’s other best friend, that the four of them should have a guy’s night. Jensen met Matt Bomer in college; he was his freshman roommate. Jared met Bradley Cooper the same way. Both Jared and Jensen were supposed to room together, but their paperwork got mixed up somehow. It worked out, though, because they got Matt and Bradley in return.

If Jensen wasn’t already pathetically in love with Jared, he’s sure he would have a thing for Matt or Brad. Both of them are intensely gorgeous, eyes that are vivid and bright, sharp jaw lines, and a crooked smile. Then again, Jared has all that and more, so maybe Jensen was just immune to their good looks after lusting after Jared for two years when he met them.

Jared, though, Jared is completely oblivious to Jensen and his lusting, thank goodness. Jared and Jensen met in high school and hit it off fabulously. Both of them found out they were going to the same college and tried to be roommates, but fates were against them. They did end up down the hall from each other, and all four of them, Jensen, Jared, Bradley, and Matt, quickly became fast friends. The next year, the foursome decided to live off campus and found a decent apartment close to campus.

So here they are, a year out of college and settled into jobs, thankfully. Jared’s a paralegal working at Kripke, Singer, and Co. Jensen works at the elementary school and teaches fourth grade math and science. Matt works as an aide to the police department, learning tricks of the trade and whatnot. And Brad works at an advertising agency designing ads for new products. All of them are doing what they wanted to do, something very rare these days, as Jensen knows from his other friends in school.

Tonight was supposed to be a chance to let loose since stress is at an all time high for all four of them, it’s just that time of year. Bradley proposed the plan and after sharing a look with Matt, Matt wheedled them all into it. Sometimes Jensen wonders if Jared’s the one becoming the lawyer or Matt. He’s also kinda scared whenever Brad and Matt team up, because it doesn’t bode well for the rest of them. And even if Jared doesn’t see the glances of love Jensen throws at him, Jensen knows Matt and Brad do, even if he’s sworn them to secrecy.

Jared does see those glances between Matt and Brad; the air practically crackles with the sexual tension between those two. Jensen can admit that them together is hot, though.

So they’re here, Brad and Matt in the kitchen doing god knows what as Jared and Jensen sit on the old sofa, sides pressed close together. It’s comfortable, and how they always sit, and Jensen just wants more. He wants to climb on top of Jared and kiss the hell out of him. He wants to admit his love for Jared, tell him how he’s pathetically been in love with him for the better part of five years. He wants to shout about how no other guy or girl Jensen’s been with can match up and how every guy and girl Jared’s been with isn’t good enough. Instead, he sullenly looks at the bottle in his hand.

Jared is talking about some story at work, making wide gestures and smiling hugely. He’s been drinking a lot and is slurring quite a bit. Jensen looks over at him, sighs internally at how beautiful he is, and nods like he’s been paying attention. Jared suddenly stops and looks at him, really looks at him. It’s almost like Jared can read Jensen’s thoughts, read his every feeling of want, love, and desire. Jensen closes his eyes from conveying everything and when he opens them, Jared is less than an inch away. Jensen can feel Jared’s hot breath mingling with his own.

“Jared?” Jensen whispers.

“Jensen,” Jared says in a low breath, like it’s the first time he’s ever said his name. Jensen’s cheeks flush and he opens his mouth to say something, anything, but Jared pulls away. Jensen wants to haul him back in.

“You know, Jensen, I’ve kinda been in love with you for what seems like ever. You’re hot, gorgeous, sweet, caring, scary smart, and so sarcastic. You make me laugh like nobody else can, and I kind of just want to spend days kissing you.”

Jensen can’t do anything but sit and stare at Jared, mouth dropping open in surprise. Jared continues though, still staring intently at Jensen.

“But I couldn’t tell you because you date all these jerks and all these other beautiful people, how can I compare to them Jen?” The end of that is broken in a plea.

Jensen leans in and kisses Jared’s cheek softly.

“Jay, if you remember this at all tomorrow, we’re going to have a long long talk about this, I promise. And even if you don’t remember, we’re still going to talk, because fuck, Jared, I’ve been waiting to hear those words for a long time. I’m going to hold you to whatever you just said. I promise, Jared,” Jensen says fervently, all his dreams coming true in the declaration from Jared.

Jensen thinks about the wasted dates and years and wishes he was less of a coward. Jared’s smile is huge and bright, almost child-like, cheek dimpling. Jensen leans in to kiss the dent of his cheek again.

“Tomorrow, Jared,” Jensen promises.

“Yeah, tomorrow,” Jared repeats before promptly falling asleep, head dropping on Jensen’s chest.
