Days go by and Jared lives in his little bubble of happiness with Chelsea, the girl he met at the gym. He really does think she is the one, but then he discovers her little annoying habits and actually gets annoyed. It made him think that if he couldn’t handle them right now, he really wouldn’t be able to forever.
So, although it is hard, he has to end it, because it just didn’t feel right. He didn’t do it consciously, but all he ever did was compare her to Jensen and she just didn’t fit with him like Jensen did. Jared never thought of Jensen’s stupid annoying habits, and there are tons of those, as annoying, but just as something that’s part of Jensen.
Jared knows he’s not the easiest guy to stand because he’s messy, a dork, can’t cook to save his life, can be the biggest pest in the world, but Jensen can stand it and never says anything. Well he does, but it’s all said with a joke, like he really doesn’t mind it.
Jared thinks about it harder and with a sudden clarity, he realizes he’s in love with Jensen. And then he thinks back at Jensen’s choked voice when he told him on the phone about Chelsea, about Jensen’s eyes dimming whenever she was around or Jared talked about her, about Jensen being closed off more than usual lately, about Jensen’s face lighting up when Jared said he broke it off. Jared is an idiot.
He rushes back to the house and finds Jensen washing dishes, hips moving to the music playing on the radio. He gets up close behind Jensen and puts his hands on Jensen’s hips. Jensen stills, hips and body and hands. Jared puts his chin on Jensen’s shoulder and starts to whisper in his ear.
“I’m sorry. I’m an idiot and late to the party and I fail at knowing what’s going on.”
Jensen turns around and puts his wet hands on Jared’s chest but Jared can’t care because Jensen is smiling again and Jared can’t remember seeing that smile in quite a while. God, he sucks.
“It’s okay, I always knew you were dumb,” Jensen says and Jared can’t even get mad because Jensen reaches up to kiss him and it’s perfect and everything Jared was missing out on. Jared is glad he discovered his feelings, if late, because better late than never.
