Summary: Jared’s heart gets broken.

The worst thing in the world for Jared has always been a broken heart. If a relationship ends, he turns into a 12-year-old girl that’s been turned into a baby. He whines and complains, tears up a little, and basically thinks the world’s about to end. Which it seems it will, because it takes forever for Jared’s heart to recover from being broken. He’s always been that way and can’t change it. So when the thing with Genevieve is over, even though they were only together a couple of months, it doesn’t hurt any less and feels heart wrenching and like his heart was literally broken into pieces. He knows, logically, that he’ll be fine and the thing with Sandy was actually much worse, but his heart and his brain aren’t on the same wavelength.
The difference with the past few breakups is that Jensen’s always been there. A phone call, holler, and step away. And Jensen’s been amazing at taking Jared’s mind off of it with booze, games, and work.
It seems different this time, like Jensen is pained to be near him. He’s still the awesome best friend and always there, but it seems like Jensen’s hurting too and Jared hasn’t ever been able to handle his best friend hurting. He overhears a conversation Jensen has on the phone a few days after the breaking of his stupid fragile heart. Jared isn’t eavesdropping, but he was also really quiet as he went downstairs to Jensen’s room, so maybe it was his own damn fault.
“Danni, I can’t tell him. He loved her. His heart just got broken, and it’s way too early.”
A few beats of silence and Jared assumes Danneel is saying something.
“I’ll tell him. Promise! I just…I can’t write now. He’s really hurting over this, Danneel, and I can’t put my stupid issues on him right now. I’ll have time to tell him how pathetic I am over him later. I swear.”
Jared feels like he can’t breathe and quickly turns away, unable to believe what he’s hearing. It sounds like Jensen’s in love with him. That can’t be right though, Jensen’s straight and in love with Danneel.
Jared rethinks the past couple of months, since before he even went out with Genevieve. Jensen had mentioned him and Danneel taking a break, even though they still loved each other, and Jensen hadn’t ever said they got back together. Jensen had even seemed kind of distant when Jared started talking about Genevieve more and more, bringing her over and constantly bringing her up. When they started dating, it seemed like he barely saw Jensen, but he thought it was just because Jared was so busy with Genevieve.
Looking back, though, he can remember the hurt in Jensen’s eyes that Jared had just brushed off as the trick of the light. He feels horrible in that moment. He needs to fix it, but he doesn’t know how. He’s been in love with Jensen since Season 1, but he always had Sandy, then Jensen had Danneel, then Jared had Genevieve. It never seemed like the right time for them, like the fates were conspiring against them.
But Jared was nothing if not impatient so he marches right back downstairs where Jensen is sitting on his bed, his head in his hands, looking like he has the world’s weight on his shoulders. He looks up at the noise Jared makes and his gorgeous green eyes widen in surprise.
“Jared, what…?” Jensen starts but Jared doesn’t give him the chance to finish his question and just tugs him up into a kiss. On Jared’s part. Jensen isn’t kissing him back.
Jared backs away, afraid he might have heard wrong or started to wish so much that he heard what he wanted to. He closes his eyes and turns around, mumbling out an apology.
Jensen doesn’t let him go far though, just turns him around and pulls Jared’s head down into one of the best kisses Jared’s had in his life. It’s not brutal, but it isn’t the most gentle either. It’s passionate and possessive and perfect.
They are going to have to talk about this, extensively, but for right now, Jared’s content to just kiss the amazing man in front of him.
