Peek-A-Boo.
Halloween is Jared’s favorite holiday. He loves absolutely everything about it from the ghosts and goblins to the jack-o-lanterns to scary movies and to the candy. Definitely to the candy. Even though he’s about three times the age that people usually go trick or treating (and damn doesn’t that make him feel old) he still loves the candy and usually eats most of it from the bowl. Jensen, awesome husband that he is, stocks extra in a secret hiding place that Jared can never find now matter how much he looks. Jensen is like a stealthy ninja with hiding things though, from hiding his own stash of candy to Noah’s and Jared’s Christmas presents, to even their ring when Jensen proposed.
But Jared doesn’t mind, because that means he and Noah are both surprised on Christmas, there is enough candy for the trick or treaters’, and Jared never saw the proposal coming. So all in all, it’s a win-win situation.
Noah got Jared’s genes apparently, because he’s bouncing around, giddy for Halloween. He’s actually going trick or treating this year, because he’s finally old enough to understand that while usually you shouldn’t take candy from strangers, it’s okay to on Halloween. Jared doesn’t really get this, but he never complained when he was Noah’s age, and he’s really not going to complain now. Though he will be thoroughly checking the candy because he still can’t get over that Supernatural episode with the razor blades in the candy.
Noah is ridiculously excited about the candy, the decorations, the hayrides the neighborhood is giving, and especially his costume. He decided to go as Supernatural Season 5 God, otherwise known as ‘Uncle Chad’. It’s kind of weird that that’s the costume Noah picked, but Jared and Jensen let him pick his own even if Noah picked a costume from about six years ago. Chad thinks it’s hilarious when Jared called to tell him what Noah picked and he demanded pictures, as if Jared and Jensen weren’t planning to take them anyway.
Jensen still bought enough candy, Jared knows, in case they come home early or Noah decides not to go, which is never going to actually happen, but it’s always a possibility. So Jared got started a bit early with Halloween and as a result, he has a stomachache the size of Texas as they are supposed to be leaving to take Noah. Jared just wants to suck it up and go see his son go door to door, confusing all the neighbors with his costume, tricking those that don’t give him awesome candy, and getting some really good haul.
But Jared can’t, and so he waves pitifully at his husband and son who leave the house hand in hand ready for a night of fun while Jared is stuck on the sofa clutching his stomach in pain. It’s less than an hour later, though, when he hears a knock at the door. At first Jared thinks its trick or treaters' and trudges up miserably to the door, and opens it wide, fake smile plastered on his face. Instead of cute little angels or princesses or awesome ninjas or superheroes, he sees Jensen and Noah standing there. Jared can’t help the real smile that drifts across his face as he steps back to let them back inside.
“What happened?” Jared asks them, kind of confused.
“Noah here couldn’t bear to leave his Daddy apparently,” Jensen explains.
Noah’s mouth drops open and he stares up at Jensen, eyes wide.
“That’s not all of it, Papa!” Noah says, affronted and accusing. Jensen actually has the grace to blush at that and looks down.
“Fine. And I couldn’t leave you either,” he mumbles. Jared’s smile at seeing the both of them ratchets up a couple of notches, bright enough to light up the city, hell the state, if he wanted.
Jared tilts Jensen’s face up and kisses him with a soft and sweet kiss.
“Ewww Daddy!” comes Noah’s voice. They pull away from each other and see Noah with the cutest disgusted expression and both Jensen and Jared exchange glances before nodding slightly at each other and start to tickle Noah relentlessly.
“Eww huh?” Jared says, digging fingers into Noah’s side and wriggling them, smiling at the delighted peals of laughter coming from the little boy.
So Halloween isn’t really what Jared expected but being home with Jensen and Noah makes it perfect. The candy that Noah got as well as the leftover ones they never get around to giving away doesn't hurt either.
