Writer's Block: The Only True Question:
Um, both! The Last Samurai, with sweet wooden- sword duels in the Japanese countryside, and Pirates of the Caribbean, with Jonny Depp+ Eyeliner!!! One night after salsa, we came across a group of people hanging around dressed as pirate/ninjas. They were just hanging around downtown, and we took a picture with them and showed them some dance moves! It was a fun encounter.
Ok, so I was confused: the last samurai is about samurai, but I guess the question, Pirates or Ninjas, has always really been a question of stealth and grace versus bold and daring conquest. There are nijas in the movie, they just aren't the main focus. However, if the real question is the Eastern style versus the Western, I think that, as with most cultural divides, the best answer is a blend.
