Long overdue update

Apr 21, 2008 18:08

I don't post here much because I work six days a week plus class, and thus choose not to spend my free time on Livejournal.  A great many things need discussion for update purposes I suppose.

Emily and I are in the process of figuring out living situation this coming August.  We need to start looking around for an actual set of four walls in which to reside and professions within close proximity of said four walls.  She spends a great deal of time here to begin with, but it'll be nice to not have her have to go home every night.  I will also be happy to be closer to my mother, and Emily's brother also lives in the area.

I have a new (relatively speaking) car.  It is a 2002 Honda Civic with only about 78k miles on it.  I have a car loan to pay for said car, which is fine because it builds my credit (which is already above 720 because I'm not foolish with the credit cards I've had since I was 18).  Yay for that.

As part of the Master's degree I must take two semester of Practicum (which is like an internship but ... well... it's exactly like an internship but they call it something different cause I'm a graduate student.)  The wonderful thing is that my practicum site (The Department of Mental Health and Addiction Services - Research Division) decided that they should be paying me for my time.  So they are giving me money for work I was going to have to do anyway.  Above that, they say I can continue working there through the Summer, allowing me to pick up some extra cash for things like say... a security deposit on an apartment.

At my "real" job (that is... the job I have for no reason other than money and health benefits) we were given short notice that our manager was leaving.  He was to swap positions with another manager as of April 1st.  I was irate at having to feel out the managerial style of a new person, but there were conflicts between him and my immediate supervisor that made it for the best, I think.  Problem is, the woman that replaced him was either fired or quit very suddenly after only a week and a half of working at our branch.  (The bank wont tell us which, just that "She no longer works for us.")  We now have what is called a Floating Bank Manager, a guy who's job it is to simply fill in when there's an emergency.  He's nice enough, but radically different from the other bank managers I've had.  It's not that I disliked the new woman, nor this newest guy as a manager, it's just that with new bosses, you have to spend time figuring out what their expectations and hang-ups are, and that can be stressful.

The Changeling game has reduced in size.  I have to say I wish the game could be everything to everyone, but it can't.  I certainly am not glad to see the specific people who left go, but I am a bit glad for a smaller game.  Smaller games are less stressful, and frankly if it hadn't shrunk, I probably would've been advocating for a fifth ST.

My Dad is getting married come this May.  It is a bit weird to think of my dad married to someone who isn't my mother, but frankly the change isn't that enormous.  He's been living with Nancy for about two years now so it's really just a title for what's already been going on.

I think that's all thats super-important for the moment.  Perhaps I'll update again in another month or two.
