GenCon Thursday: Social

Aug 11, 2010 19:50

We got up early on Thursday to hit the dealer's room with John's fancy, early-entry tickets. I went straight to the Utilikilt booth, tried on a kilt, didn't buy it b/c they only had the uber expensive deluxe model, but did buy one from the Got Kilt? people nearby. I knew I wanted one, and I knew sizing would be difficult, (and it was, each vendor only had one in my size), I went early. I ended up with a black Workman's model. It has a key fob, two cargo pockets with a smaller pocket on one and penloops on the other, two back pockets, a tape-measure/ipod clip, and an adjustable loop that can hold a cordless drill...or a 20oz bottle of diet coke. I am well pleased by this purchase. As I hope to lose weight in the coming months, I'm not sure what will happen to the fit, but I suspect there is some room for shrinkage. I must say, that having so many pockets makes me yearn for a reason to wear a utility belt all the time, I may have to do something about this...

Dan, Lia, Jen, and Allen arrived and we checked in around 3:30. Mike came later, and we all met up briefly before John and I went to dinner.

Thursday was also date night with John. We went, as usual, to 14 West. This place jut gets better and better. Not only do they have amazing pretzel rolls (I wish I could make these) but they actually do good seafood, have vegetarian options, and cater to localvores, but they also were having a half-priced wine bottle sale and a sort of restaurant week menu! Truly fabulous. I had an amazing salad of Indiana roma tomatoes and fresh mozzarella with this really neat green sauce, the half roast chicken (also Indiana raised) with mashed potatoes and green beans. John had tomato bisque and a veggie pasta that was to die for. For dessert, there was crème brule and cheesecake. We drank a bottle of fruity white wine that even John liked. I wish I could remember what it was called...but super yummy and nice to talk and have time together.
