[Sam finally finishes gathering the various things that people requested from the shops, considering he was in the area. He packs as much of it away into his boots or pockets of his coat and jeans but still has to tuck the four tiki torches he stole borrowed form the shops underneath his arm. He ducks back down behind the counter of one of the ( Read more... )

The gleam of a massive blade suddenly cut through the darkness and rain, then an orb of sickly green fire exploded just yards away. Sephiroth, covered in blood not his own and pissed as all nine hells, cut down another buggane and desultorily kicked the carcass aside.

Glancing over at the "new arrival," he save Sam an abrupt nod, gesturing with his free hand.

"Come," he ordered tersely, scraping water from his face. "We've not much time."

[I so had to hit Sammy! ♥]

Sephiroth's arrival was nothing that Sam expected, more like something out of a samurai movie he'd watched once with Dean and, combined with the dreadful onslaught of torrential rain beating through the door, it seemed almost surreal. The hunter slicked his already drenched hair back against his scalp and spat more water out before nodding. He didn't know exactly who this guy was, but was grateful nonetheless; if nothing else, Sam had learned from hunting to never look a gift horse in the mouth.

"I'm assuming you know where Cabin N is," he replied, a little amused at himself for not knowing even after a few days. "Jonathan said that it's between 12 and 1."

As Sam stepped out from the relative safety of the shop, he could already see the water from the pool rising up to the edge of the concrete.

The General nodded, sodden hair hanging down his back in a drenched rope. Gesturing with the wrist holding the wicked Masamune, he pointed in that direction. "Not far." A noise drew his attention and he scowled. "But a considerable distance, given the circumstances."

Abruptly swinging back to Sam, he asked abruptly, "Light. If you have it, use it now. But hurry." With that, he gestured impatiently for the other to follow, brusquely jogging off in the direction of the northern cabins.

Sam pulled a pineapple flashlight from the back pocket of his jeans and held it out in front of him. He tried to click it on before he shook it vigorously. The device refused to turn on and he frowned at it before it hit him. He turned back to look at the store before again at Sephiroth.

"I need to get batteries!" the hunter shouted in the General's direction, not quite sure if the other was already too far away to hear him over the wind and pounding rain.

And, without waiting for a reply, the sasquatch of man hurried back inside, quickly searching the wall for four different types of batteries and shoving them into his boots: AA, AAA, C, and D.

Sephiroth jerked to a halt, nearly growling in consternation. Of all the inept-! But he tamped his ire and turned back, eyes and ears keen for any sort of bestial disturbance within the immediate vicinity.

The General briefly considered screaming at the boy to hurry the hell up, but knew the noise would undoubtedly draw the monsters' attention, but he couldn't resist delivering his military scowl at the lad when he reemerged. They were of a height, and feline MAKO eyes were hard.

"Are you quite done?"

[Omg, Sam. ♥ PINEAPPLE FLASHLIGHT AND FORGOT THE BATTERIES!!!]

When Sam stepped back out from the shop, it had begun raining sideways. A gust of the downpour slapped him in the face and he failed to wipe his eyes clear a few times before he realized that holding up his free arm as a shield would allow him to at least look at Sephiroth. The scowl that greeted him twisted Sam's mouth down into a resolute frown.

"We needed those," the hunter protested, feeling a little sheepish but knowing just how important the batteries were. "But yeah, I think I have everything."

To accompany his words, Sam nodded, just to make sure the point was thoroughly hammered in if he could not be heard above the maelstrom around them. Quickly, Sam clicked the pineapple flashlight on, which shone out in front of him from the bottom of the pineapple.

"Let's go!"

Rather than berate the boy further, Sephiroth just wordlessly headed back towards the northern cabins again. The light was feeble compared to the darkness and rain, but it was a light nevertheless.

Masamune held at the ready, Sephiroth set a brisk pace, hoping the rain would dampen their scent and muffle their passing from the large beasts.

Sam followed after Sephiroth, easily keeping pace despite the rain pounding against every part of his body. Already, the hunter felt soaked to the bone but figured that if nothing else, it would help hide them. If the darkness was obscuring their sight then, chances were, the rain would then also obscure the vision of the monsters as well. Sam hoped, though, that they would make it to Cabin N without incident, especially considering he had several important and valuable items tucked away into various pockets.

(ooc: I'm cool with them fighting a few monsters on the way to the cabin. :D)

The General suddenly came to a halt, every sense on alert. "...we're being followed," he said in a deadly low voice, barely audible over the wind and rain.

The large sword glistened in the light from Sam's flashlight, almost seeming eager to rend flesh and bone. Sephiroth tensed; he knew well how fast and dangerous these things were, he'd been battling against them ever since night fell.

"...be ready..." he warned ominously.

While Sam didn't quite have the ninja sense of Sephiroth, he could feel that something was wrong in his stomach; a spurn in his gut that told him that his knife and pineapple flashlight were going to be useless. The hunter turned his back to the General, hoping to at least cover the other man's back. He'd gone up against wendigos, poltergeists, demons, and a whole slew of creatures, he could do it again. Carefully, he re-settled the tiki torches under his arm.

Barely murmuring in response, "I have your back."

Sam would keep his word to the best of his ability although against a foreign creature he had had no experience with could end badly.

Though enormous, the buggane that stalked them was almost silent, hidden further by the noise of the rain. Their scent... the scent of food was nearby. The beast dug claws into the familiar earth, but the rain cast too many vibrations of its own.

It moved closer until their outline was visible. Barely... but enough. On broad fists and feet it moved faster than most humans can run, bellowing its need to kill and feast.

Sam glanced around, not at all liking how he felt like prey waiting to be caught. He took a couple steps back towards Sephiroth, finding some sense of security in the power that he had seen the other wield. His foothold in the slick mud wanned as rain pooled almost immediately wherever he stepped. The hunter glanced down at his feet briefly to step out of the small lake he'd created simply by standing.

Sephiroth suddenly swore, hearing the beast's roaring. In a whiplash of movement, he spun around and rather abruptly brought the Masamune whistling around in a gleaming arc, intending to sever the monster's head from its shoulders.

Shouting a warning to Sam, the General tried to shove the boy out of the way, but the slick concrete had him just slightly off balance and the movement was too fast to correct once started.

The shove easily overpowered what little balance Sam had. Without much warning, Sam fell, scattering the tiki torches and knocking the pineapple flashlight from his grip. More than anything else, the fall knocked the wind out of the hunter. His hip spiked with a pain that made him wince and suck some rain involuntarily into his mouth but he certainly had had worse. Barely catching a glimpse of the monstrous form of the buggane in the weak glow of the abandoned flashlight, he attempted to brandish his knife in the vague direction of their predator. What good it would do, Sam didn't know.

The buggane, having tasted the General's blade earlier and survived, swung a massive arm and knocked the silver-haired man aside, sending him toppling to one side. It then swung about and focused on the seemingly easier prey, the youth sprawled on the ground, wielding a depressively small blade.

The monster roared, claws shrieking over the sidewalk as it crouched and prepared to pounce, intending to rip the boy to shreds.

Sephiroth hit the ground hard, nearly stunned by the impact. Unable to move for a moment, he finally staggered to his feet, shaking his head to clear his vision of the inky rain mercilessly falling.

Seeing the beast lumbering towards Sam, the General snatched up his blade once more and bellowed his own challenge to the beast, drawing back the heavy sword in preparation for what he prayed to be a killing blow.
