You`d think with school done and all the extra free time I have that I`d power through books, but I actually have to remind myself to read because more often than not I end up just vegetating in front of the laptop. I was able to read & finish the entire Percy Jackson series while on my two week trip to HK, so that made up for the book count.
The Devil Wears Prada - This is another case where I think I prefer the movie over the book. My main problem is that the book version of the protagonist was so whiny. It was off-putting.
The Fellowship of the Ring - Just like the Hobbit, I really wasn`t dazzled by this book. I want to like it, since it`s a classic and all, but I just couldn`t get into it. Most of it was just the characters walking, and that got boring really quickly. It might take a re-read before I can truly appreciate it, but I won`t be doing that any time soon.
The Great Gatsby - This was never on my high school reading list so I only got around to reading it now. I thought it was enjoyable. But like the Hobbit, I think this will take another reading, since there`s so many different ways to interpret and think about it. But I won`t be doing that for a while, which I think is better anyway, because reading a book with fresh eyes can help you pick out things you never noticed before.
Percy Jackson and the Olympians - This series was really fun. Similar to Harry Potter, it`s a series intended for kids, but can really be enjoyed by any age group. It is full of adventure so there really aren`t any dull moments. The main character Percy makes a great narrator because he`s kinda snarky and you can`t help but root for him. I watched the movie right after I finished the series and it was a major disappointment. It could have been big like the Harry Potter franchise but the directors/producers really dropped the ball on that one. Stick to the books.
I`m going to be starting full time work in three weeks, so hopefully I`ll still be able to find time to read! Just 18 more books until I finish my challenge.
