Day 31

Jul 31, 2011 12:45

…and DONE! Whew! I can't believe I actually managed to write something for this every single day! Especially considering I had regular journal entries tossed in here and there, too… though I suppose that just says something pretty sad about my (lack of) summer plans. :P

Also, how like me is this: I've answered 35 questions in my 30-day meme. ;)

Day 31: The 30-Day Meme in a 31-Day Month Bonus Question:

An anime you’d like to see made:

Silver Diamond. Because I have an AMV that needs to be made. Seriously, I can see the advertising campaign already: “More slashy than Saiyuki!”

Runner up: G-Defend. But mostly only because then someone would sub it and I'd be able to enjoy it in my own language. >_>

Recap:
Below are the questions from the original meme at sara_tanaquil's journal (& other places) that I didn't answer there and/or didn't duplicate here. This is mostly just for me to have in one place for posterity's sake and for the small number of non-LJ friends who're reading, although I suppose the unanswered topics will be new material for the Flist, too. Anyway, in no particular order:

Favorite show watched so far: Vision of Escaflowne. Runner up: Kyo Kara Maoh.

First anime crush: Time & distance blur the lines of "first" but it juuuuust might have been Mamoru from Sailor Moon. It could have also been Mega-Playboy version Junta in DNA^2. (How typical...) Then again, Keith and Lance from Voltron played some part in my enjoyment of that show, which puts them considerably ahead of either of the other two time-wise. Eh, just spin the wheel and whichever it lands on will be correct, yeah? ;)

Anime character you feel you are most like: So long as we're not being sticklers on gender: Hiro from Junjo Romantica.

Favorite couple: Sawako and Kazehaya from Kimi ni Todoke (for traditional couple) because they are unbelievably adorable, sweet, and angsty in the good and romantic way. Rosette and Chrono from Chrono Crusade (for doomed couple): childhood friends, loyalty, love; so perfect, so tragic. Lina and Gourry from Slayers (for action couple): they will have each other for the rest of their lives, however long that may be at their given rate of adventure.

Favorite BL/yuri couple: Hiro and Nowaki from Junjo Romantica. Both Hiro and Nowaki are great characters on their own, but jeez but I’m pretty sure this is the only thing I’ve ever wanted in a BL couple. I can even name a runner-up couple since Sekaiichi Hatsukoi has aired: Kisa and Yukina!

Favorite slice of life show: SuperGALS!  Runner-up: Azumanga Daioh.

Favorite tsundere: Hiro (Junjo Romantica) has to be my pick, but he's closely rivaled by runners-up Wolfram (Kyo Kara Maoh) and Kyo (Fruits Basket).

Favorite harem: The gang at sara_tanaquil’s assured me that Kyo Kara Maoh was indeed a harem show, so that’s my pick, though my runner-up, DNA^2, is probably more in keeping with what I assumed to be the original intent of the question.

Most epic scene: Originally I’d named the death of the Sailor Scouts in the Stars season of the Sailor Moon anime, but I'd forgotten about how much Van releasing his wings for the first time in Escaflowne blew me away until spacealien_vamp picked it. I'd choose that now, instead. (But there really are just so many choices for this question…)

Saddest anime scene: A LOT of possible answers that are all sad for different reasons, so instead I’ll just name the anime that makes me cry with the most frequency and intensity: One Piece. It used to be Sailor Moon (so hey, runner-up?); I remember how I cried for Usagi when Mamoru turned evil - the scene where she stops to take refuge in a phone booth (of all places) to cry will probably stay with me forever, with props to the voice actress for that - but I completely lost my shit over Chopper and the sakura “tree” and I’ll certainly not be forgetting Nami trying to stab off her own Arlong tattoo, either.

Favorite mecha series:  Vision of Escaflowne

Anime you’re ashamed you enjoyed: Just to get it out of the way: I'm not really ashamed of my tastes, but I suppose there are things I wouldn't show unilaterally to anyone that came along anymore. I've got some rather unpleasant yaoi that I can't believe I still own and might count here if I'd enjoyed them, but since I didn't, I’ll pick I! My! Me! Strawberry Eggs. Even at the time, this wasn't the sort of show I watched or was even remotely the demographic for, but I was genuinely amused by the parts of it that were funny and the school romances were cute. It stepped into territory that eventually started creeping me out though, and it’s that I realized this and yet still watched, that makes me choose it for this entry. I’d watched it 2 ½ times before I decided I felt more discomfort than amusement, and eventually I sold it off.

Best anime villain: Folken Fanel of Escaflowne will probably remain my forever favorite (redeemed villains FTW), but a pick for the true spirit of villain would undoubtedly be Nakago from Fushigi Yuugi. He was evil to the core; his designs were not only on ruling his world, but the Earth’s world and even the Gods above, and he did unspeakable things in the pursuit of those goals. Even a tragic childhood past couldn’t make him sympathetic to me.

Most annoying anime character: Misty from Pokemon! I once went to the Pokemon Center in NYC and took a picture of a standee of Ash and Brock (& their assorted pokemon) and photoshopped the following text on to it: "What Pokemon should have been about." Old joke aside, I don't have a general type I always dislike, but I frequently find the “token girl” and the so-called comic relief in a [mostly] non-comedy show to be the characters I end up disliking (or at the least make me wonder why someone thought they were a good idea). The most recent “most annoying character” I can think of, though, is Renge in Ouran High School Host Club.

Post a cute neko-girl: I am so clever.
