This one is tough in a way that the other questions were not. Shounen is a genre whose themes and character types I really latch onto like craaaazy but whose shows I rarely finish. Yay! Hikaru no Go was how I answered this question the first time around, largely in part because I actually finished it (and liked it, and watched it again). Actually, in my original edit of this post there was a line about how few shounen series I actually HAVE finished -- seriously, it's got to be less than I can count on two hands - so I strongly considered naming it again here. I suppose there were various reasons as to why I did not, though I can't say the decision making process was entirely targeted or logical.

PS: I don't know that it can be all that ironic that you don't own something if you're not really given the means to do so. I mean, why import something you can't fully appreciate, and it's not as if VIZ ever finished putting it out for us in R1. Though I do believe they've released it all streaming (? iTunes maybe?). It's funny though, because after recent discussion I wanted to see it again so bad that I borrowed my friend's copy of the series (they're old fansubs).....I figured it would be easier than trying to deal with watching streaming right now, but of course I haven't started it, what with the games and all.
