Day 21
The trappings archetypal elements of the magical girl genre made it pretty easy for me to narrow this down to a couple of choices, but boy, what a tough time those two ended up giving me. I might still be waffling over who gets top billing even as I type this.

Day 21: Best magical girl outfit
At the risk of being too traditional (boring?), I really like the simplicity and lines in Himeno's [Wind] Pretear outfit. The drape of the skirt is pretty and unique, and the straight-line top really does it for me. It's an elegant look without a lot of unnecessary frills. (Shut up, flappy sleeve-things.) It also has bonus button-pushers like blue trim, thigh high boots, and maybe even that cute little tiara. Not to mention it looks like something she could actually move in. Also, her sword is shiny.
But miiiight I have wanted to say Mami from Madoka Magica because she wears a corset and kicks ass with a rifle? Maaaaybe. Yes!! I also like the arm socks, the shirt collar, and her thigh-highs have stripes! She has a very video game-esque look, and one could even argue she's a little steampunk-inspired -- either way she earns mega bonus points. She also wears her outfit well ...or at least she does in the fanart I've collected (in which she is a little less loli and a little more adult). ;)
This one is actually pretty close to a tie; there are all sorts of awesome buttons being pushed and on another day I could have easily swapped them. (I mean, the guns, people! *swoon*) Mami is new and exciting, but Himeno has long been a favorite. It might only be that we see so little of Mami and that I absolutely adore Himeno as a character that gave the latter the edge, even though it's unfair to the outfit to judge based on the lady who wears it.
PS:
I'm willing to bet someone picks Cardcaptor Sakura for this question; the sheer number of outfits in that show tilts the law of averages in its favor. :P Thinking this put me in mind for a fun (?) bonus game, but I'll have to wait for the replies to see if it would even work. ;)
