It's a John Lennon song, off the "Plastic Ono Band" LP (1970), the only non-Yoko Beatles related product I own. It may be faggoty (though the two hard rockers on the LP rival even Alice Cooper's finest moments), but I don't think it counts as "shoegaze." Here're the lyrics:
God is a concept By which we measure Our pain I'll say it again God is a concept By which we measure Our pain
I don't believe in magic I don't believe in I-Ching I don't believe in Bible I don't believe in tarot I don't believe in Hitler I don't believe in Jesus I don't believe in Kennedy I don't believe in Buddha I don't believe in mantra I don't believe in Gita I don't believe in yoga I don't believe in kings I don't believe in Elvis I don't believe in Zimmerman I don't believe in Beatles I just believe in me Yoko and me And that's reality
The dream is over What can I say? The dream is over Yesterday I was the dreamweaver But now I'm reborn I was the Walrus But now I'm John And so dear friends You just have to carry on The dream is over
humans have this innate need to rationalize everything. nothing can just happen, and certainly when stuff does 'just happen' it can't for criminy sake be all our own fault. there has to be some otherworldly reason. god is what most people call that reason. god is the concept by which we measure all our good and bad, happiness and pain, love and loss. blah blah blah. (cuz god knows us puny humans can't have fucked things up so badly all on our own, we *had* to have like some outside influence! [or conversely we just couldn't of gotten as far as we did with out the help of aliens or that big fella in the sky]) *giggles*
so was this like a joke question? am i on like some candid interweb show?
