Coffee

Four years ago it seemed silly to spend $300 on a really nice espresso machine. But I got some money from my parents as a gift, and decided to go for it. Well, this morning it failed to wake up (I think the main switch is busted, which I might be able to repair). But I got to thinking about how much I loved the machine.

The amazing thing? I make an espresso most every morning. I even took it with me when I went to DC for three months, and was living out of a suitcase. And over the four years, the thing cost less than 30 cents per cup. That is less than the cost of the beans!

This holds for other things I use regularly. My phone, motorcycle helmet, speakers, computer, shoes, etc. all have much, much cheaper versions that I didn't get. I splurged, and love those things.

There are lots of other things that I am looking forward to spending a stupid amount of money on when I have a real job. Computer, dress shoes, furniture, a car, housing. Need to get rid of a lot of stuff before then.

Oh, and write a dissertation.
