Seeing The Real and The Luck O'The Irish

So far, AWESOME vacation!

Sunday: Torhwood catch up with Lil. We are SO ready for the finale Saturday night. I slept over because we were headed NYC-ward for the live cast recording of Passing Strange the next day.

Monday: We caught the first non-peak train, and were in the city by 10:40. We got to Times Square a little after 11 (potty break & Starbucks run). We headed to the Belasco Theatre just to see what was going on, even though they weren't supposed to take down names until 1. We got there and they actually were taking names. THey told us that while we had seats, they were doing a lottery to see where we would get to sit. Maaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaan.

Whatever, we gave both our names, figuring, we'd have a better chance, and they told us to come back at 1. We walked around Times Square, windowshopped, and had lunch at Junior's.

We got back to theatre a little before 1. There were a TON of people there, and we (I) was worried.

At 1:30 they started to call names. Lil's name was like the 5th one they called. After they had about 30 or so people, they led us in. We were in the first row! It was actually, like the third row, because they had the first two blocked off with equipment, but whatever.

The recording of the cast album was so much fun! There weren't any sets or any of the crazy lights, just the actors, the fans, and the music. It was just amazing.

A brief intro on Passing Strange: The story is about a young man's journey, literally and artistically, from his home in L.A. to Amsterdam and then Berlin, and then back home. It's autobiographical about this musician named Stew, who is also the show's narrator. The show is so moving, in both music and it's message.

In between songs, while sound people were setting, or resetting, or whatever they do, Stew would talk to the audience, and tell us more stories about the people in the play. It was, as I said just a great experience.

It was all done with about 5:30 and we got dinner to go at Zaro's and Starbucks, and caught the just before 7 train.

Today, Tuesday: Slept in. Headed out about 10:30 and got my emissions test. Yeah, pass!

Then I headed Torrington way to visit my grandmother. It was the usual. I did some local window shopping and then headed home.

Looking ahead: Tom'w, nada, yet. and then Thursday, movie and won tons!
