Overall Thoughts:
I I have so many half-finished stories, including a very long one started for
xf_bigbang that I really wanted to finish. I really want to be more consistent in finishing stories I start next year!
Looking back, did you write more fic than you thought you would this year, less, or about what you'd predicted?
More than I expected, but a lot of things were written as challenges or gifts (just one story written 100% on my own). I write better than way, but I'm feeling a little let down because I didn't finish my big bang story.
What pairing/genre/fandom did you write that you would never have predicted in January?
All Creatures Great and Small. Never even crossed my mind!
What's your own favorite story of the year? Not the most popular, but the one that makes you happiest?
"What Feels Right" for sure. I worked hard on that story and it was well received in the fandom. I'm very proud of it as a story and it is one of my only stories that I can read myself. I really like it.
Did you take any writing risks this year? What did you learn from them?
Yuletide! I learned that when I have a deadline and a challenge with a prompt I can deliver. However, I also learned that the stories won't turn out like you expect them to, which is both good and bad...
From my past year of writing, what was....
My best story of this year:
"What Feels Right" - I have a sequel for it (an ensemble piece) that I would really like to finish and post as well.
My most popular story of this year:
"What Feels Right" - I love you, X-Files fandom, but man did those AOS Star Trek fans let me know how they felt about my story!
Story of mine most under-appreciated by the universe, in my opinion:
"Seawall Conversations" - ummm ... I liked it, but I got one comment on it. Seriously, people. It wasn't that bad was it?
Most fun story to write:
"Hey Scully" - It basically wrote itself, but limiting myself to 100 words per "figure" was an amazing exercise. I'm really proud of this story.
Story with the single sexiest moment:
"Hey Scully" - it's cute, sweet, and sexy. I like it better than the sex in "What Feels Right."
Most "Holy crap, that's wrong, even for you" story:
Lol, nothing.
Story that shifted my own perceptions of the characters:
"Bridge Between 'Life' and 'Justice'" - Eli and Rush turned out to be incredibly difficult to write and I'm not satisfied with this story in the least. Which I hate saying because I wrote it as a gift. I mean, I like it, but it didn't turn out the way I wanted because I found Eli and Rush so challenging.
Hardest story to write:
"Bridge Between 'Life' and 'Justice'" - again, I just couldn't seem to capture these characters. It really frustrated me!
Biggest Disappointment:
Both my failed big bang story AND the fact that I have yet to finish my AOS story...
Biggest Surprise:
When I heard via a friend that someone who hasn't commented on my work before "loves" my stories. I am pretty typical in the fact that I think the only people who read my stories are the ones that comment. I was incredibly flattered to hear that she liked it, especially since I love her work and value her opinion!
Most Unintentionally Telling Story
Hmmm, I didn't use writing as therapy at all this year - so nothing is particularly telling for me personally.
Fic-writing goals for 2010:
1. Finish my AOS story!
2. Finish my A/U XF story!
3. Write more!!
4. Do Yuletide again!
5. Write outside my element at least once - it's fun.
