NaNo Day 4

Nov 04, 2014 23:08

I admit, I look judgementally at people who have 10k or 20k words by Day 4 of NaNoWriMo and go, "You must have no life." "You must get up really early in the morning."

Only half-joking. With thesis woes and my struggles with essays due, I'm pretty surprised that I'm still on track as far as the NaNo stats tell me I should be. Currently writing a paper to criticise a theory I think is pretty good--my prof's own theory--because when I couldn't come up with a viable topic, he told me to do just that. Cue drowning. History of science prof is actually a physics prof so while he's bananas at history, he's brilliant at physics and I love getting to ask him stuff and have it explained to me after class.

I thought this would be the year I did original writing for NaNo. Unfortunately, there were some issues I really needed to resolve. Yes, my current NaNo is fanfiction--yes, it's for a dead fandom. But here's what I'm selling: it's about obsession. It's about how one small thing can sometimes break up a family. It's about the choices people make and the fallout: we live with the scars of our parents. It's about consciousness and the nature of memory. It's about friendship and family; it's about how we deal with scars.

And most of all, it's about stories.

^ Sounds good? I thought it was worth a shot.
