1. They would say he had been meant for the Nomana since he had been a child, but that wasn’t true. For the first few years, Seeker was living his father’s dream, and the dusty gold-lettering of the scholar’s board was all he ever aspired to.
2. Failing. He is more afraid he will never be one of the Nomana, even after the three of them were accepted into the Nom. He’s afraid of being cleansed and returning to the wooden walls of the Anacrean schoolhouse: that the world will contract to these four walls he has grown up in.
3. Where your way lies, the door is always open. He can’t believe the All and Only spoke to him, can’t believe these words until he is dangling from a single slender rope attached to a cliff in Radiance. Exhilaration. And again, when he is raised and returned back to the priests, hauled up from the steep dive.
4. Morning Star wants to be a Nomana because she thought her mother was one of them. The Wildman wants to be a Nomana because he wants their power, and their peace. Seeker doesn’t know why he wants to be a Nomana. He only wants.
5. Even when he believed they’d cleansed Blaze, he couldn’t bring himself to believe the Nomana were wrong. And yet he knew, just knew that his brother had been innocent.
6. He was utterly terrified when the charged water started flowing into his veins. He started wondering why it was going to end that way. Disappointment. A strange feeling he’d been meant for something more.
7. He didn’t need words to let Blaze know how relieved he was when Blaze freed him from Ortus’ machine.
8. He has been shattered; terribly empty and lost when Anacrea was destroyed and the Garden was gone (and the All and Only dead).
9. He doesn’t know which is more terrible: coming face to face with Jango and Noman, or discovering that there is no All and Only. There is no god; there is only the experiment, and he is the Assassin.
10. There is cruelty and there is necessity. No Nomana would do what he now does, but Seeker realises dimly he is no longer a Nomana. Not quite.
