You Are Not The Beatles

So an old friend and I just had a long discussion on facebook about Panic! At The Disco (yes, I still continue to put the ! even though they dropped it). Anywho, it all started when I was listening to iTunes and "Nine In The Afternoon" came on. Which really got me thinking. How can you possibly have a nine in the afternoon? Yes, there is the logical "any time after noon is the afternoon" theory which my friend said, but nine is such an odd time to say it for. We discussed how that's kind of silly because when most people think about the afternoon, it's bright out and usually takes some place between 1-5. Nine is not a bright time. Especially since it's being shown as happy bright wake up time in the music video.
So then we began discussing how P!ATD pretty uch started going downhill and what not starting from the second album. I commented on how they never were the same after they attempted to be like The Beatles and what not, which pretty much screwed them over. They were fine doing their own thing and being, for the most part, original, but once they tried to be something like The Beatles, they were pretty much rejected instantly. And then when they broke off due to "musical differences" or some bullshit like that. And when you listen to "New Perspective", the new song by P!ATD, it sounds like they're getting back to their original roots and it actuallly tends to get stuck in your head. And then when you listen to the Young Veins', the new Ryan Rooss & Jon Walker band, nnew song, you can tell that they're trying to be like The Beatles. And they just aren't going to go anywhere with that.

Moral of the story? Don't try to be The Beatles.

music, rants
