Title: Windowsill Ritual

Author's Notes: I know that Rowling said that Teddy wasn’t a werewolf, but I like to think he’s inherited some characteristics. Only very loosely based on the prompt.
Everyone else had gone to bed and Teddy was sitting on the common room’s windowsill. Hours ago, he’d pushed the curtains away and watched as the sky had darkened and the moon began to rise.
He wasn’t a werewolf. He’d seen a healer to confirm that. He’d listed all his monthly symptoms, his throat going dry as he talked. Psychosomatic, the healer had said dismissively.
But Teddy could feel an animal in his head and beneath his skin, angry at its containment in his body, its hunger and cruelty just festering in him without the horrible release of a transformation.

Scorpius opened his eyes blearily and saw James sitting on the end of his bed, looking excited, but fully clothed for once.
“It’s Christmas, get up!”
Scorpius thought enviously of Al, sleeping in the next room.
“Look my Gran knitted you a jumper!”
He looked at the lumpy wool garment and tried it on.
“If I’d known that being involved with you would involve dodgy knitwear, maybe I’d have kept on despising you.”
“If you’re going to insult my Gran’s knitting charms then you won’t get my present.”
“What is it?”
James smirked. “Take off your jumper and find out.”

He’d just overheard her boasting to her friends, that was all, James tried to reason, but he couldn’t stop the icy feeling of comprehension surging through him. So that was why she had wanted to meet his Dad, when he’d never met her parents, why she never wanted to know his friends who weren’t famous, why he’d always felt vaguely like a status symbol for her.
Suddenly, James wished he had a boring desk job at the Ministry, where he could sink into obscurity, where people wanted to know plain James, instead of England’s star seeker or Harry Potter’s son.

Teddy groaned inwardly. For over a year, practically the entire Weasley-Potter family had been asking none too subtly about his future plans.
“Vicki and I aren’t ready to get married anytime soon, Lily, we’re both only young and-“
“-you’d really be a part of the family. You do love Vicki, don’t you?”
“I’d like to think I’m already part of the family and I do love Victoire, but I don’t need a piece of paper to make either of those things more real.”

Merlin give me strength, Neville thought, as James launched into yet another rant about how Scorpius Malfoy was evil in an eleven-year-old form.
“Unless Scorpius has actually broken any rules there’s nothing I can do. Frankly James, I think you’re being unfair.”
He looked around the greenhouse for a way of explaining. “A weed is a plant whose virtues have not yet been discovered. You barely know Scorpius, maybe he’ll surprise you.”
James looked repulsed. “Malfoy hasn’t got any virtues.”
