It's almost the epitome of wonkish, nerdy, left-wing political geekitude to admit this, but I watched Barack Obama's Democratic convention speech on PBS tonight

I phrased that poorly - I should have said "you don't have to agree with his speech" instead of "his politics". Said speech was hard to argue against since it was A) relatively free of any concrete political positions, and B) very well delivered.
What I can say about Obama's politics, however, is that he's a moderate who seems to reach across political and social boundaries pretty easily - one of his big pieces of legislation in the Illinois legislature was a law which requires videotaped interogations in capital crime cases. It was supposed to be a hard sell, but ended up passing unanimously. Unless my ears tricked me, he also snuck a reference to Rich Mullins' "Awesome God" into his speech tonight, which may be the first time I've ever heard a Democrat reference that particular singer.
"The pundits, the pundits like to slice-and-dice our country into Red States and Blue States; Red States for Republicans, Blue States for Democrats. But I’ve got news for them, too. We worship an awesome God in the Blue States, and we don’t like federal agents poking around in our libraries in the Red States."
It's not a clear reference to Mullins, but that song was the first thing that came to my mind when I heard it.

And the line in question was:
"The pundits, the pundits like to slice-and-dice our country into Red States and Blue States; Red States for Republicans, Blue States for Democrats. But I’ve got news for them, too.
