Opening Lines
In the beginning can start several ways. Sometimes there's a prologue, sometimes we just leap right in. Sometimes we say, "It was the best of times," and sometimes we say, "I'm Perfect Tommy. Find me."
Sometimes it starts with a government think tank or maybe it's getting royally smashed in front of your new coworkers when they "forget" to tell you that the special liquid you have been so exuberantly imbibing is fermented mare's milk.
It might begin with ridiculous cowboy chaps and that terrible kerchief, or showing up on the doorstep one fine day with the Pentagon's most treasured secrets in your shaking tweenager hands.
It starts with a sudden burst of sunlight, golden orange and peppery red so brilliant that you shade your eyes from the sight and when you lower your hand you see before you a laughing lady. So you stand stupified, transfixed on this beauteous sight - you think This is it - you stumble as human traffic bumps into you and sweeps you into her field of vision and suddenly she's smiling at you.
It begins with the unknown fact number one. With a gunshot, a scream or a cry cut short. Or maybe that's how it ends and unimportant for our purposes because we are talking about how it begins. That terrible tumultuous youth is standing before you as though maybe he thought he'd turn invisible with his words, as though you would be like all the rest.
It starts with "Hello. I'm Buckaroo."
And then she giggles and says, "I'm Peggy."
