Some Questions About Grad School in the UK

Okay.  I'm not a graduate student yet.  I'm about three semesters away from finishing my undergraduates degree.  However, I am wondering a few things and was hoping someone here might know a thing or two and be able to help answer my questions.

Okay, first off, I am an EU/Commonwealth citizen (Cyprus to be exact) as well as a citizen of the US.  I'm wondering if it would be a better idea for me to go to a graduate school in England under my Cypriot passport rather than under my American passport.  If I did this, would I still be able to get my Stafford loans?  Also, would I need a special student visa if I was entering as a student under Cypriot citizenship?  I know I need a visa as an American student.

Also, I'm a little concerned about how difficult it will be for me to get into a graduate school in England.  I'm a student at a little university in Nebraska (University of Nebraska @ Kearney).  One of my professors has told me I may have to do a "reserved" graduate study before I can go on to do my actual graduate course.  I think his reasoning was that graduating from an American university would leave me with some gaps in my studies.  In my school, only 40 of 125 credit hours is focused on the coursework for my major.  The rest is electives, general studies, and work on a minor.  And if I have heard correctly, the undergrad coursework in England is something like 120 hours of credits on your major?  I think I should mention that I am an English major with a focus on British Literature and I am also working to complete a second major in German.  Anyway, would I have an easier time I getting into a graduate school in England if I transferred to a British university to finish out my Bachelor's?  (I am aware that this would extend the amount of time before I can get my Bachelor's degree finished)

And finally, I'm expecting to graduate in December of 2007.  Would I be able to start coursework for my graduates degree in January of 2008?  Or will I have to wait until August/September of 2008 before I can start?

If there is anyone here who can give me some advice, I would really appreciate it.

applications, visas
