So much art, so little time...

Packing is tedious no matter how long in advance you begin packing. I started packing about a month ago, and after today I feel I haven't made a very large dent in my endeavors. My parents are coming on the weekend of the 23rd to come get all of my stuff, including all of my furniture. Then, I'm moving out on the 5th. I'm going to live with Grace and Atom for six weeks during training in Denver; then I will move in with Andrew N.

I've been listening to way too much music lately...trying to make up for lost time or something. Today I listened to The Life and Times (my favorite KC band), Lali Puna, Momus, Stevie Wonder, Groove Armada, April March, Eggstone, Ladytron, Autolux (quite possibly one of my new favorite bands), Mai, Morrissey and Camera Obscura. For some reason it just seems that I keep discovering too many bands and have no time to listen to them and love them. I feel the same way about literature and film, as well. So much art, so little time.

In other words, I had a huge debate with a friend about surrealism. He told me that I could not produce a work that was surrealistic since it was a movement. But I argued that a movement is also a genre, as is romanticism or modernism or post modernism. I tried to give examples, saying that I could write something grandiose and flowery as a romanticist did, and he kept telling me that you couldn't do it for surrealism. I had to disagree because I have a Venus Khoury-Ghata book of poetry which is very much surreal. Ah, art...there are just no absolutes, are there?

Man, I really need to go to sleep, but I'm not tired.
