“Are you sure you don’t want more?” Martha Kent smiled kindly and encouragingly at the lovely young man her son had brought home. “It really isn’t any trouble at all.”
Bruce guiltily looked up from the empty soup bowl, enjoying how the savoury sensations danced on his tongue. “Well,” he said almost timidly. “Only if it’s not too much trouble.”
Martha laughed, waving the comment away. “No trouble at all.”
As soon as she was out of sight, Clark put down his spoon, folded his arms and fixed his lover with a look. “Seconds?”
Bruce returned the look with an air of nonchalance. “She offered.”
Clark raised an elegant eyebrow. “You never ask for seconds.”
“You’re mother usually isn’t the one doing the cooking,” Bruce replied easily.
Clark looked shocked. “Whatever would Alfred say to that?”
“Nothing,” Bruce said with chuckle. “Because he’s never going to find out.”
“Isn’t he now?” Clark teased, casually leaning back into his chair. “Oh, I don’t know, I think it’s very possible this incident may very well somehow reach his ears.”
“Do you now?”
“Yup.”
“I see,” Bruce grumbled, mirroring his partner’s posture. “And how much will your silence cost me.”
Clark’s eyes shone with merriment as his mother entered the room with another bowl of vegetable broth. “I’ll think of something.”
“You do that,” Bruce countered. His eyes already devouring the contents of the bowl before it was even in front of him.
“Remember,” Clark said, picking up his spoon once again. “We’ve still got two more courses to get through. You might want to think about pacing yourself.”
Bruce’s smile grew predatory, bat-like. He looked up from his new bowl and fixed Clark with a glare that would make lesser mortals cower in fear. “I’ll manage, Kent. I’ll manage.”
Clark shook his head sadly and anticipated many complaints regarding bloated stomachs and nausea in the evening ahead.
