It's funny that such a remote place gets as much tourist traffic as this. No way in or out, except once every couple of months, and generally you can't or won't give us a clue on how to find our way back where we belong ( Read more... )

Getting there at least.

In the flesh.

Can't say I expected to find you here, but this week is turning out to be full of surprises.

Where are you?

Is it?

It's probably easier for me to find you than for you to find me. Unless you know your way around?

[he might be ignoring that first question for the moment]

Can't say that I do, but I have been wandering for a short while. I'm in front of a hospital now.

[interesting. and possibly worrisome.]

Wait there. Giving directions gets tricky.

[ooc; action? :3]

I'm not going anywhere, promise.

[He'll be out there, standing somewhere near the main doors with his hands in his pockets and looking very much like he's paying less attention to his surroundings than he is.]

[ooc: yesplz! :D I may disappear at some point, since I'm...technically still on vacation, but if so I'll tag you when I get back tomorrow! Turns out I couldn't completely miss 4th wall day. >_> ]

[It doesn't take him that long to get there, and he probably could have directed Dexter to the warehouse... But somehow, the uncertainty of the situation-- not knowing when his brother's fallen in from or what he knows and doesn't know-- seems better suited to the peculiar privacy of meeting in public.

Once he's in sight, he waves.]

[ooc; backtagging is my bread and butter so no worries if it comes to it! :3]

[Dexter waves back. He's a little paler than usual, but other than that he seems merely happy to see the man. As soon as he's close enough to speak without being heard, he gives his brother a small smile.]

Hi, Brian.

[Well, that answers one question out of many. The one great downside of the City's temporal habits: half the time he finds himself at a disadvantage.]

Been a while.

Too long, I'm starting to think. I've missed you.

[He looks furtively around the City, unsure of his surroundings.] I'd say this place was insane, but that'd probably be kind of redundant.

[Not a promising turn of phrase. So Dexter definitely knows something he doesn't.]

I sometimes wonder if it's just a psychotic break I'm having, hallucinating. [He shrugs slightly.] But I think if it were, I could be more creative. I'll buy you a cup of coffee?

You wonder? [That gets a somewhat surprised, somewhat amused glance, because he's fairly certain he's having one right now.] I guess you're right- I'd expect a lot less rules, at the very least. Someone handed me a guide to this place, and... [He just shakes his head in disbelief.]

But yeah, coffee. I could use a sandwich too, if you wouldn't mind. I haven't eaten in awhile.

Sure. [He nods, starts to lead off towards a cafe. This whole situation is a little strange (but these curses always are,) and he hasn't quite decided what he thinks of it. If Dexter seems pleased to see him, shouldn't he be pleased, too? But somehow he feels he's missed the fun part.]

How're things at home?

[There's a hitch in his step when Brian asks the question. Of course he asks that question. Dexter closes his eyes and lets out a breath, then opens them again. He looks straight ahead as he starts walking again, eyes averted from his brother- but they're dark.]

Well, I got married, had a baby boy, and stalked another one like us to see how having a family worked for him. Turns out it doesn't. At least not well.

...what a surprise, huh?

You had a kid? [Pardon a little incredulity there. Brian knows about Rita-- knows dear Dexter's dating her, knows a bit about her background because he does his homework-- but wouldn't have pegged them as anywhere near married, and having a kid's nearly a year-long ordeal on its own.] I guess we have a lot of catching up to do.

[Which he doesn't... entirely want to do. A frown twitches his lips as he glances away.] Families are tricky things. [Easy to break. Hard to hold onto, after thirty years apart, hm?]
