I am so excited!
As many of you don't know, my girlfriend participated in this competition called We The People Competition Civics. She competed against 15 other teams from the state of California, and they have won and will be going to Nationals to compete against 50 other states! Of course I am not going to let her be on the national stage without attending myself, so I am going to watch her at Nationals in Washington DC! She is terrific!
Competition Civics is where the students are given a set of three questions based around 1 of 6 topics. There are usually 6 groups of five people on a team of 30 to take each topic but Yvonne handles all of them by herself ^^(the other people in the photo are extras to make the other team feel better, as she does all the work) So like, one group would be solely in charge of the Bill of Rights, another on the extension of rights to minorities, one on the philosophers that influenced the Constitution, one on the actual creation of the Constitution, one on institutions which the Constitution established, and one on Citzenship. They give a presentation at each round and then have 8 minutes of Q and A which could be questions about anything, and they must think on their feet, something which she excels at ^^
